Request - Kayce is sick and the reader has to take care of him.

You knew it was going to be bad when you got back to your shared room with Kayce. Earlier this morning he was coughing up a storm and his nose was red from what you could only guess was a pretty nasty sinus infection. He called you annoying when you mentioned he might should stay home. He shrugged you off when you tried to push him back into the bed. He had dodged your hand when you tried to feel for a temperature and raced out of the bedroom without a goodbye kiss.

You had gone about your normal work day, which consisted of heading into town to work on your continued talks with Jamie about coming back to the ranch and his father's blessings. Pulling into your parking space next to Kayce's truck you notice the light in your room on upstairs. It only meant Kayce was home as well, and after a quick glance at the time, you both missed dinner probably.

You made your way slowly, giving him extra time to think about how he was going to apologize to you for earlier. But when you opened the door the sight alone made any sort of negative thought you had about the man you loved disappear from your mind.

Kayce was asleep, snoring slightly, on top of the covers, and still dressed completely – boots and all. His hat had fallen to the floor, but the wheezing coming from his chest concerned you. While you wanted nothing more than to turn the lights off and let him rest you knew he needed more than that tonight.

You moved into the bathroom and started a warm bath up. Even if he had a temperature, and you were pretty sure he did, the water would soothe his muscles to make the sheets more comfortable later. You pulled out some aspirin from the medicine cabinet and set it on the counter, you spotted some Epsom salt and pour a little into the water. A groan from the bedroom made you rush back in to see Kayce sitting up and holding his head.

"Hey," You said, walking over to him and running your fingers through his hair. "How ya feeling, champ?"

Kayce looked up at you through squinted eyes. "Like shit."

"Yeah, I bet," You smiled but continued to push his hair back, your nails scratching his scalp. "I'm running you a bath that I want you to sit in for at least twenty minutes to help with your aches."

"How do you know I'm achy?" Kayce mumbled, his eyes closed from your actions.

"You're achy," You giggled, leaning down to press your lips to his forehead to feel. "And you're burning up."

"Mmm, you're sexy too, babe."

"Kayce," You rolled your eyes. "Come on."

You helped him stand and you both walked back into the bathroom. You tested the water while Kayce took his clothes off. As he got into the tub you turned the water off and sat down on the ledge while he leaned back with a heavy sigh.

"You're not getting in?" He asked you.

"I know you're good," You laughed. "But you ain't that good Kayce. Look at you... you're sick as a dog!"

"M'not," He mumbled, but then immediately started to cough. "Okay, maybe I am."

"I'm sorry," You took your hand and dipped it into the water, bringing it up and over his chest a few times. "Did you eat anything?"

Kayce shook his head no. "I couldn't find Gator when I got home so I just came straight to bed."

"Let me go see if I can make you something," You stood up. "You need a little something with your medicine."

You left Kayce to soak and went downstairs. You were able to find some chicken broth, water, and some crackers and figured that would be best for him. After placing everything on a tray you carefully walked back upstairs. You placed the tray on the nightstand and made your way back into the bathroom.

"How's it going?" You asked sitting back down on the ledge.

"Been better," Kayce muttered, his eyes looking a little glassy.

"You wanna try and eat something for me and then you can take some medicine?" You asked.

"Do I have to move?" Kayce winced.

"Yeah," You reached out and ran your finger along his cheek. "But then you can sleep."

Sighed heavily, Kayce got out of the bath, grabbing a towel while you went to grab him a pair of boxers and a simple cotton shirt. You tossed them to him in the bathroom and got to work making the bed down. When Kayce walked up beside you, you patted his pillows and let him get in over the covers. He groaned as he settled back against the headboard so it was easier to eat.

"Here you go," You placed the tray on his lap. Kayce smiled up at you but you could tell by his eyes that he wasn't going to last too much longer. "Try and eat as much as you can and I'll get you some medicine."

Walking back into the bathroom you looked under the sink for something to help with his sinus congestion, settling on a twelve-hour pill, and then grabbed the bottle of aspirin. Moving back into the bedroom you could see Kayce had eaten about half of what was on his tray.

"Good enough?" He asked, pushing the tray away.

"Yeah," You said holding out the pills. "Now take these."

While Kayce swallowed the pills you took the tray and placed it on the dresser, turning back and seeing Kayce sink down into the bed. His caramel eyes found yours and he gave you a frown.

"M'sorry for being a dick," He said.

"When were you a dick?" You asked, sitting down on the bed next to his hip. "Oh...you mean when I was right and you were wrong this morning?"

"Uh...yeah," Kayce rolled his eyes. "Sorry."

"It's okay," You leaned forward and pressed a kiss to his forehead. "I'll save my scolding for when you're feeling better again. Wouldn't want to kick you while you're down."

"Oh," Kayce shook his head. "Thanks for that."

"Do you think you can get some sleep?" You asked brushing his hair back again.

"Mmhmm," Kayce's eyes shut instantly with your actions. "Love you."

"I love you too," You whispered, reaching over and turning the light off before grabbing the food tray on your way out.
