Request - Can you write one where she gets pregnant and ends up giving birth on the ranch for some reason?

Your hand slammed against the kitchen counter, a low groan escaping your lips as you pressed a palm against the underside of your pregnant stomach. Something warm and wet ran down your legs. It was Thursday, mid-morning and you were the only one in the house. Kayce had left to run down to where the wranglers were sorting a new herd of cattle for one of the pastures. He promised to be back soon, and while you had basically pushed him out of the door this morning, you were wishing you hadn't now.

You were a week late and while your doctor said that was normal for your first child, that didn't help the fact you've been carrying around a bowling ball the last almost ten months. Another wave of pain washed over you and you felt tears well up in your eyes. Glancing around you couldn't find your phone either. Trying to control your breathing, you leaned your forehead don on the cool counter. Kayce would be back soon...you just needed to keep breathing for a little while longer.

You're not sure how long you stayed like that, but the pain kept getting worse. You soon heard footsteps approaching from behind and you leaned your head to the side to see your father-in-law.

"John," You moaned as another wave hit you.

"Y/N!" John was by you in an instant. "What's wrong?"

"The baby," You cried as John held your shoulders tightly. "I think...I think it's time."

"Okay," John stepped to the side so he could lean down to your face. "Let's see if we can get you to the truck, sweetheart."

"Ok-ahh!" You felt your knees give out, but John was there to guide your fall onto the kitchen floor.

"Breathe, honey," John said into your ear as he helped you lean back against the bottom of the kitchen island. "Breathe in and out."

You matched your breathing to John's as he moved your hair away from your sweaty forehead. He slowly stood up and jogged around to the sink, grabbing some towels before coming back to you. You reached out and held his hand, needing some comfort.

"You're okay, Y/N..." John gave you a small smile. "Let me call Kayce."

He reached for his phone, pressing the screen, and holding the phone up to his ear. After a ring or two Kayce must have answered.

"Kace...come to the house and bring the vet...Y/N is having the baby...now, son!" John barked and then dropped the phone when you leaned forward in pain again. "Come on, Y/N... I've got you."

You cried out again, the pain feeling like someone was splitting you open. John maneuvered his way to sit behind you, his back now against the island and he pulled you backwards against his chest. Your knees seemed to know to prop up as you tried to find your breath again.

"I can't do this..." Your voice was weak.

"Sure, you can," John held you back. "Women have been doing this for centuries, honey."

"I...Kayce," You cried, missing him more than you ever have in your life together. You knew he was on his way, but your brain wasn't operating normally.

"He'll be here soon," John pressed a small kiss to the back of your head. "I've also delivered more babies than him so if you want someone who knows how this goes, sweetheart you're in good hands."

"M'scared," You felt your body shaking from nerves and adrenaline.

"I've got you," John whispered in your ear. "You're just fine... just breathe...in and out...in and out."

A few more minutes passed by while you and John breathed together. Your grip on his hand never softening as the older man calmed your worries down with his words. You weren't entirely sure how much time had passed before the door to the kitchen burst open with Kayce calling your name with Rip and the vet running in behind him.

It all happened very fast, but soon the vet had your knees propped up with towels and tools all around you. Kayce was next to you, his face low to yours.

"Hey baby," Kayce said with a smile. "You just couldn't wait, could you?"

"M'sorry," You felt yourself smile despite the pain, Kayce's presence already calming you down partially. "I tried..."

"She's doing great," John laughed from behind you still.

"Course she is," Kayce's thumb ran over your cheek as you reached out for his hand with your one currently not in John's.

"Alright, Y/N...you ready to push?" The vet asked from where she was sitting. "You're at ten centimeters."

"Now?" You suddenly got nervous all over again.

This was it.

"I'm right here, baby," Kayce said, scooting closer to you. Your terrified eyes found his excited ones and you suddenly knew it was going to be okay.

An hour later.

"How is she?" You heard John whisper from the doorway into your bedroom.

After the excitement this morning, your little family of three had been moved back up to the bedroom. You had decided to not even think about the fact that someone had to clean up in the kitchen from what took place.

"Ten toes and fingers..." Kayce whispered from right beside you on the bed. You were laying down, turned towards your husband, your hand pressed against his side. You had fallen asleep with Kayce holding your daughter in his arms and chances are, that's where she still was.

"I meant momma," John laughed, and you heard his footsteps come closer.

"She's amazing," Kayce said, and you felt his hand come down to card his fingers through your hair. "Thank you."

"For what?" John asked.

"For being there with her," Kayce took a deep breath. "For helping."

"Well, that's my granddaughter," John replied, and you could tell he was on the side of the bed near your back. "And you know I love Y/N like a second daughter."

"Look what she did..." Kayce trailed off and you knew he was looking at your daughter again.

"Have you thought of a name yet?"

"Y/N hasn't said," Kayce's fingers kept their action. "She said she'd sleep on it."

"She knows," You said with a smile gracing your lips and you heard both men chuckle. You opened your eyes and looked up at Kayce who was smiling down at you. Rolling over slightly you saw John who helped you sit up some.

Your daughter was wrapped tightly against Kayce's chest in a light pink blanket. A small white hat on her head as she slept in her father's arms. You leaned against Kayce's shoulder as you watched her for a little bit, still amazed she was here.

"Evelyn Elizabeth Dutton," You murmured.

You glanced up to see Kayce watching you with misty eyes. John's hand on your shoulder made you turn and look up at the man. John had tears flowing down his cheeks and you knew he knew the importance of both names.

"Well, if she wasn't already perfect," He said before leaning down and kissing your forehead. "Good job, momma."

John turned and silently made his way out of the bedroom, closing the door softly. In all the years you had known John Dutton, you had never seen him cry, so it was a moving moment for everyone.

"My mom and yours," Kayce whispered as you leaned back against his shoulder.

"And your sister," You said. "My mom went by Beth too... just like another woman I know."

You felt Kayce kiss your head.

"Thank you," He murmured against your hair. "She's perfect."

Your eyes found his again and you smiled. "We did good, Dutton."
