Request – One with Kayce as Livestock Commissioner and the reader is annoyed at him in his truck about his job but then the reader sees how Kayce looks to her for confidence in doing the right thing. The reader then says how proud she is of him. Maybe some Monica being difficult? A lot there - Lol

People seem to like "annoyed" Kayce/Reader Lol Also, this turned into a long one- sorry!

You had a little over two more hours inside this truck with Kayce. For some unknown reason, you decided to ride with him over on a call about missing horses on a Reservation near Billings, but due to the road conditions it had taken longer than expected to get there. The family of said missing horses were not amused by Kayce or his team in how they seemed to "not care" enough if things happened on the Reservation. They ended up finding the horses, picked up by the government by accident...which only led to another ear full you all got once the horses were returned. You could tell Kayce was annoyed but he would always tread lightly with you when it came to Native American situations because you seemed to challenge the Commissioner on things in a way, he had a hard time defending.

"Do you want to stop for dinner in Darby before we get back?" Kayce asked quietly from his side of the truck.

"I'm not really hungry," You sighed. "But if you are we can, I can just nibble on something."

"No, it's okay," Kayce shook his head, switching hands on the wheel. "I can make it to the house."

"Do you..." You took a breath. "Do you want to talk about it?"

"Not really," Kayce glanced over at you. "I don't wanna fight."

"I'm not going to fight you, Kayce," You rolled your eyes even though he wasn't looking at you anymore. "But I think they had a pretty good reason to be annoyed."

"It wasn't my fault the agents picked up horses that already had a brand on 'em," Kayce's irritation was seeping through now.

"But you have to understand your badge isn't different from those badges in the eyes of that family," You offered.

"Trust me I understand," Kayce sighed. "And if I didn't I have you to constantly tell me."

"You asked me to come with you," You narrowed your eyes.

"I know."

Your eyes traced over Kayce defensive posture. Even though he had a jacket on you could tell his muscles were tense, his knuckles gripped the steering wheel tightly. Kayce was usually pretty good with his understandings of the relationships between the Reservations and the government, but sometimes with his job he did have to pick sides. You sometimes had to remind yourself that Kayce followed the law, so while you could be irritated all you wanted at Kayce, you should direct your irritation towards the law instead.

You reached over and rubbed his shoulder. He glanced over at you again before focusing back on the road. He didn't shrug you off, so you had that at least to go by for now.

You moved your fingers towards his neck, trying to loosen up his tense muscles. Your fingers brushed underneath his hair when you got close to his neck, massaging the skin and sliding your thumb along the muscle.

"You being nice now?" Kayce mumbles but you could see the smirk on his lips.

"I'm always nice," You giggled when he rolled his eyes. "You just don't like it when I'm right sometimes."

"You're always right," Kayce laughed.

"Right answer," You smiled. "You're very tense though right now."

"Wonder why?" Kayce grumbled as he made another curve along the highway. You were about thirty minutes from the diner you knew he liked.

"Maybe I am a little hungry," You offered, as your fingers continued tracing his skin.
