Request - Could you do a request where Kayce leaves to go overseas, and reader just found out she was pregnant and tells him. And maybe flash forward to when he comes back either right before or after the baby is born?
"You've been weird all morning," Kayce said as he zipped up his bag.
"My husband is going on another tour for six months," You huffed from where you sat on the bed next to his bag. "I think I'm allowed to be weird."
"Your normal weird, yes," Kayce looked over at you. "But this weird...this ain't you."
"What do you want from me, Kayce?" You sighed, running your fingers through your hair.
"Now you're picking a fight," Kayce picked up his bag and carried it over to where his other things were. "You're at least right on schedule with me."
"I'm not..." You stopped.
You were picking a fight with him and for no good reason. This is what you had always done though. When you knew someone close to you was leaving, you made sure to push them away first. It started with your father when you were six and continued up to when you met Kayce.
But Kayce had a way of seeing what you were planning before you could sometimes. This wasn't his first tour either, you had done this exact tactic before with him. The first time he left, he didn't catch it and the whole time you two were a part he feared you would leave him and wouldn't be there when he got home.
When you were there to greet him, that's when he learned. Kayce walked back over to you slowly, stopping in front of you on the bed still. Any other morning and you'd think he was getting ready to go out with the wranglers, but not today.
"It's only six months," Kayce said. "And while that fucking blows...it'll go by fast."
"It's never fast for me," You shook your head.
"It ain't for me either, baby," Kayce kneeled down in front of you, your knees parting as his hand rested on each side of your hips.
"Be careful?" You asked softly, running your fingers through his shorter hair now that he had trimmed it.
"Always am," Kayce nodded.
"No, be extra careful this time," You sighed.
"Why this time?" Kayce tilted his head into your hand.
"Because I want you to come back to me..." You took a deep breath. "...and to our...baby."
Kayce looked confused for a split second before his eyes widened. Kayce stood back up slowly until he was at eye level with you.
"Our...what?" Kayce asked.
"Baby," You let a small smile grace your lips. "I'm pregnant, Kayce."
"You're pregnant?" Kayce asked and when you nodded, he lunged at you.
The two of you fell backward on the bed laughing, Kayce pressing kisses all over your face. You giggled as he wrapped you up in his arms. For the next thirty minutes, you both lay there, soaking each other in.
"I have to go," Kayce whispered, and your arms tightened around him.
"Please don't," You sighed, but then loosened your arms.
"I'll be back before you're due," Kayce kissed your forehead.
"I love you," You looked up at him.
"I love you," Kayce kissed your lips. "Both of you."
Flashforward – Reader is 8.5 months now
Of all the days to go into early labor, it would be the day you were supposed to pick Kayce up from the airport. John had raced to get him while Beth and Rip had taken you to the hospital after your water broke at breakfast this morning. Your contractions weren't terrible yet, but they always weren't pleasant.
"If men had to give birth our population would have ended centuries ago," Beth smirked at Rip who was in the farthest corner of the room while she sat in a chair next to your bed.
"Rip," You sighed. "It's not coming out now...you can stand over here with us."
"Just don't want to get in the way, sweetheart," Rip nodded at you.
"Where is my husband?" You groan as another wave of pain ran across your stomach.
"Men..." Beth snickered as she flipped another page of the magazine.
You took deep breaths as you held your stomach. A few seconds later and the pain subsided...for now at least.
"If you want out, then get out!" You yelled at your stomach.
"If he wants to say in there longer then he can," Kayce said from the door.
You looked up and immediately tears came to your eyes.
"Kayce..." You sniffed and held out your arms to him seeing as how you couldn't run over to him.
Kayce walked in, removed his hat, and sat down on the bed, wrapping his arms around you as best he could. You breathed him in, his body warm and alive next to yours. It was as though your child knew because a swift kick was delivered against you, letting Kayce feel his child for the first time.
"Hey buddy," Kayce leaned down and pressed his lips to your belly.
"You don't know that it's a boy," You rolled your eyes, wiping away some of the tears.
"Fathers know," Kayce leaned up and pressed his lips to yours in a sweet kiss. "Hi."
"Hi," You stroked his cheek, so grateful he was home. "So much for waiting."
"Best welcome home I've had," Kayce kissed your cheek before he got up to hug his sister and shake Rip's hand.
Kayce took his jacket off and walked back over to your bed. He sat down with you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders as you leaned into him. You nuzzled into his neck and sighed, for the first time since he left you felt calm.
"We'll be in the waiting room," Beth smiled and walked out with Rip.
"M'sorry I wasn't here," Kayce whispered into your ear.
You knew he meant for the pregnancy.
"You were here," You winced as another contraction came and went.
Kayce held your stomach over your hand, trying to help however he could.
"How are you?" You looked up at him after you did your breathing.
"M'fine baby," Kayce smiled at you.
"You know what I mean," You tilted your head.
"I'm..." Kayce looked at you and you nodded your head.
"I love you," You pressed a kiss to his jaw. "Welcome home."
Five hours later you both welcomed a little boy into the world.
