Request: After his divorce from Monica (a while ago) Kayce is pretty down then he meets Y/N and knows right away that she is the one like within the first two weeks he knows so he invites her to his family thanksgiving she meets everyone and everyone can see that she brings out the best in him and how he is already so in love with her.
Author's note - this one went long!! Sorry about that :)
Kayce knew you were the one. Had he said this out loud to anyone they might have called him crazy, said it's too soon for that, after only knowing you a few weeks. But there was something about you he couldn't put his finger on.
"You're shaking the whole truck," Kayce laughed.
"Sorry..." You sighed and placed your hands on your knees where one had been bouncing up and down. "You can't blame me for being nervous."
"You ain't the only one," Kayce glanced over at you. "My family ain't the...most normal one, especially on holidays."
"So you picked a holiday for me to meet them all?" You laughed at his guilty face.
"Well," He shrugged. "I also knew if we wanted to leave I had the excuse of having to take you home."
"So now I'm your scapegoat?" You giggled, looking out the window.
Snow was packed into the sides of the highway from where the plows had come through earlier. It was a winter wonderland in east Montana for the Thanksgiving holiday.
"More like my hero," Kayce mumbled as he pulled his truck off the highway.
You knew of Yellowstone, and you knew of the Dutton family too...but seeing everything in person was different. You were a long way from the tracker supply store where you had bumped into Kayce with your cart accidentally (though Kayce thinks you did it on purpose).
The land was beautiful, stretched out as far as you could see. When you got out of Kayce's truck you looked around, instantly falling in love even though your heart was telling you to slow down. Kayce came up beside you.
"I don't know why you'd ever leave?" You whispered.
"It's something," Kayce sighed.
You looked up at him and saw his eyes were a bit soft. You knew there were many stories behind Kayce Dutton's eyes, and while he had told a few to you over the past few weeks, you knew the ones he hadn't told probably came with more scars for him.
"I'm sure it's got layers to it," You reached out and held Kayce's arm. "But the simple beauty of it is remarkable. "Thank you for sharing this with me."
"Thanks for being here," Kayce's eyes brightened a bit.
"Should we go in?" You looked behind him at the huge house. "Or do you need another minute?"
Kayce smiled softly at you, realizing you were letting him lead this interaction today. You wanted him to be comfortable, knowing that introducing a family to someone was always nerve-racking no matter the situation.
Kayce leaned towards you, wrapping one of his arms around your waist and pulling you into his chest. Your lips met, and a sweet kiss was shared in the cold air. You smiled into the kiss.
"I'm ready," Kayce said once he broke the kiss.
He took your hand and walked you over to the front door, pushing it open. You could smell something amazing as you walked inside. Kayce took your coat and scarf, hanging them up next to his on a wall that already had some coats there.
"Smells good," You smiled.
"Gator's a good cook," Kayce said before placing his hand on your back and leading you into the home.
