Request - What if Y/N is driving when her tire pops so she has to pull over to the side of the road, but her phone is dead. Kayce is driving by and notices so checks to see if she needs any help and as soon as he sees her it's love at first sight for him, and it goes from there?
You maneuvered your SUV over to the shoulder of the highway. With a deep sigh you counted to ten, knowing that when you saw your tire it wasn't going to be good. It also didn't help that it was after five, which meant most places had closed for the day.
You got out, being mindful of the small amount of traffic on this highway. Thankfully most people on this road were either headed home or headed into work. Walking to the back of your SUV, to the side farthest away from the traffic, you saw your tire flattened against the asphalt.
"Great," You muttered.
Your dad had taught you how to change a tire when you were little, you had just already had a difficult day and were really looking forward to getting home and crawling into bed.
You opened your trunk and lifted the floor u, pulling out the car jack and seeing your spare tire ready. You sat the spare down on the grass and placed the jack accordingly. Shutting your trunk, you walked around and knelt back down to look under your car.
That's when you noticed a truck pulling up behind you. You glanced over your shoulder and saw the driver's side open. Rolling your eyes, you prepared to snap at whatever guy thought he needed to save you right now.
"Need any help?" A voice said.
You turned, looking up, ready to snap off the head but you ended up snapping your mouth shut. He couldn't be much older than you, with his dusty blonde hair coming out of his cowboy hat, maroon button down and wranglers on.
His eyes were a calming caramel color, looking down at you after his genuine question. His hands were on his hips as he tilted his head, looking at the set up you had going.
"Uh," You stood up slowly, wiping your hands on your jeans. "I think I'm okay, but thanks for stopping."
You saw him eye you up and down but try and be respectful about it. The corners of his lips twitched at your thanks to him.
"Well..." He stepped around you, rolling up his sleeves as he knelt by the car jack. "I'm already here."
You watched him lift the back of your SUV into the air enough to where he could take your flat off. You grabbed the wrench from the back and tried to pull the bolts off the metal part of the wheel. You were able to get one off while your mystery man rolled the spare tire over, but the second one was causing you problems.
"Here," The guy said, reaching out an taking hold of the wrench.
He struggled slightly, but the then wheel came loose. You raised your eyebrow at him and saw a light blush go across his cheeks.
"I loosened it," You muttered.
"Sure you did," He nodded, removing the flat tire. "Roll that one over."
You helped him put the spare on and then stood up as he tightened it to the metal wheel. He made sure it wasn't going anywhere before he stood back up with you.
"You should be good until you can get it to a shop," The guy handed you the wrench, moving to lower the SUV bac to the ground.
You walked over and opened your trunk again so he could put the car jack back where it belonged. You sat the wrench down and closed the trunk.
"Thank you...?" You asked, looking at the guy.
"Kayce," He held out his hand.
You placed yours in his and smiled at how warm and comforting it felt against yours.
"Y/N," You nodded. "Thank you, Kayce."
"Anytime," He smiled, your hand still in his. "Do you have a shop to take it to?"
"I can I the morning," You shrugged. "It's closed now."
"I could follow you there?" He offered, finally dropping your hand. "That way it's there first thing?"
"How would I get home then?" You asked.
"I'll drop you off," Kayce shrugged.
"You think I'll let some strange man drop me off to learn where I live?" You joked with him.
"You let him fix your tire?" Kayce laughed.
"That's just cheap labor," You giggled.
You ended up letting Kayce follow you to the car shop and left your SUV in the front with a message saying why it was there. You hopped into his truck, noting the Yellowstone Ranch decal on the door.
"You a rancher?" You asked him. "Or do you work for the Duttons?"
"I uh...am a Dutton," Kayce pulled back onto the highway.
"Oh?" You were surprised.
You knew of John Dutton and Jamie Dutton but hadn't met any of the others. There were four children, but that was the extent of your knowledge. Kayce must be one of the other brothers.
"I try to not lead with the name," Kayce glanced at you.
"I see why," You smiled. "A ranch as infamous as that one...sometimes it's better to go incognito when you're rescuing stupid girls on the highway."
"I was gonna go with pretty," Kayce smirked.
"There's that Dutton charm coming on," You laughed.
Kayce pulled up to the cabin that was yours on your street. You unbuckled your seatbelt and looked at him with a small smile.
"Thanks, Kayce," You said. "I don't know how, but I owe you."
"How about dinner?" Kayce asked. "When your SUV gets fixed?"
You thought for a moment, your heart race picking up as his eyes looked over at you. Throwing caution to the wind you leaned over his console and pressed a kiss to his cheek.
"Dinner tomorrow sounds nice," You smiled, quickly getting out of the truck. "Pick me up at seven?"
"You're making me drive to you after I saved you?" Kayce asked you.
"I figured you'd want that?" You looked back at him.
"Why's that?" Kayce laughed.
"Well...that way we can make out in your truck when you drop me off," You shrugged. "Ain't that what a cowboy wants?"
"I think I'm in love with you," Kayce blinked a few times, a large smile on his face.
You laughed out loud.
"I'll see you tomorrow," You winked, shutting the door, and walking into your house.
You didn't look back because it was taking all you had in you to not throw yourself at him tonight.
