Request - Reader and Kayce were married but are separated/divorced but she is an amazing lawyer, and they need her help. Kayce doesn't know John/Beth persuaded her to help. She walks into the meeting with her wedding rings on, and says "You called a family meeting Mr. Beck, it's only fair the whole family attend" or something like that. But it all ends with reader kissing Kayce, and saying, "don't be late home honey, you know how I worry" or something like that ... xx
"Well, this is weird," you said as you sat down in front of both Beth and John.
You met them in some stingy bar on the outskirts of Darby. You hadn't seen them in a few weeks, your current situation with your husband providing a dark cloud over everyone in the family.
You and Kayce have been separated for a few weeks now, a large and heated fight being the catalyst for you to walk out. Little communication had been made between the two of you, but you knew one thing for sure...the Duttons would always be your family. So, when Beth called you to meet you said yes.
"We need a lawyer," John said. "A good lawyer."
"I see why you called me then," You smiled.
"The Beck brother's requested a family meeting," John said, laughing at your response.
"Why do they want a family meeting?" You asked.
"They want to see what they're working with would be my guest," John sighed.
"And since we can't just shoot them on site," Beth interjected. "We'd like our attorney present in case they try something."
"And Jamie isn't around because...?" You glanced between the two.
"Because he probably sent them," Beth spat.
"Got it," You knew from experience that depending on Beth's temper you could either proceed in discussing Jamie or you immediately needed to change the subject.
"I wouldn't ask you if there was another way," John said.
"When you say the whole family," You asked. "Do you mean the...whole family?"
"Kayce will be there too," John nodded. "Is that a problem?"
"No," You shook your head.
Truth was, it wasn't a problem. The truth was you missed him terribly, but your pride and morals were too strong this last time around with him and you didn't know how to fight him without destroying him...so you chose to walk away and give him a chance to make it out alive.
"Have you spoken to him?" John asked, lowering his voice.
"Not in a few weeks," You shrugged. "But don't worry about that battle. That one is my own."
"Alright," John nodded. "Then we'll see you tomorrow night."
"Looking forward to it," You smiled.
For the next twenty-four hours you did your research into the Beck Brothers. They were scumbags whose father gave them enough inheritance they just got to play around for their whole adult life. You could see why they wanted the Duttons and the Yellowstone...it was just another game and playground for them to destroy. But you weren't going to let that happen.
You wore a pencil skirt, one of Kayce's favorites if you remembered right. It accented your hips and the green blouse tucked into it made your eyes pop from behind your sweeping bangs. A blazer would hide your feminine shoulders, and from your research you knew the Beck brothers wouldn't like that. Your final piece were your wedding and engagement bands.
Pulling up to the main house on the ranch you saw a large, black SUV already there. Damnit...they must have been early because you were early. Getting out and walking confidently in your heels you made your way up the steps and inside the front door. Walking down the hall you heard some conversations happening around the living room. When you walked inside everyone stopped and looked over at you.
But you were only focused on Kayce. He stood next to the fireplace, dressed in his work clothes from being at the Livestock Commissioners office all day. His hair was a little longer than when you had last seen him, a little more scruff to his beard, but he still looked like your Kayce. You watched his eyes rake over your figure in surprise and briefly wondered if John had told Kayce you'd be there at all.
"Y/N," John held out a hand towards you. "Glad you could make it in time."
"Y/N?" One of the brothers asked and looked back at you. "Didn't know you'd be joining us.
"You called the family meeting, Mr. Beck," You walked around the couch and stood next to John. "It's only fair the whole family attend, right?"
"Let's have a seat," Beth said with a wicked smile.
You walked around and took a seat next to Kayce who hadn't taken his eyes off you since you walked in. One of the brothers started speaking but you were only half listening, you had done your research, you knew they were full of shit. Right now, you were more concerned with your husband who looked a little too thin for you and whose eyes weren't as bright.
You watched his eyes dip down though and rest on your wedding rings. You looked at Kayce's hand and saw he still had his ring on and somehow that made a lot of what you were feeling disappear from your shoulders.
Sure, Kayce had messed up big time, came home with literal blood on his hands, wouldn't talk to you about any part of it, missing cow thieves were all over the paper...and the list went on and on. But right now, all you really wanted to do was take care of your husband. The time a part had really done a number on you as well, you just hadn't realized it until now.
"...and that's why it's crucial the Yellowstone partner with us," One of the ghost-men said. "We really are your only hope."
"Are you done?" Y/N snapped, making everyone look at you. "You just spent twenty minutes without taking a breath. Do you really think we're all just a bunch of idiot rednecks who can't tell our ass from our hands?"
You slowly stood up from your seat.
"You claim you're the best to partner with...do you honestly think we haven't looked into you as well?" You crossed your arms. "Why don't we talk about Arizona?"
You watched the brothers exchange a worried glance.
"Yeah, we know all about your moral endeavors down there," Your eyes were sharp. "Or let's jump to Salt Lake and the deal you made with Park City Holdings, LLC? How much money did their attorneys take from you?"
"That was a misunderstanding," One of them coughed.
"A misunderstanding that costed your customers five million, if I recall my notes," You placed your hands on your hips. "Look, you aren't going to make friends here. The Yellowstone isn't for sale and it's not going to be for sale and even if it was for sale, as this family's attorney I would never recommend you two as the beneficiaries."
"Well..." The brother's stood up. "Clearly, we should have done our own homework. John, if we could perhaps speak with you alone."
"You can funnel any questions through my attorney," John nodded. "Otherwise, you can get the fuck off my property."
The two brothers were escorted out by Rip and Walker, Beth hot on their tails laughing. You looked at Kayce as he stood from his spot, John walking slowly out of the room.
"Hi," Kayce said softly.
"Hi," You softened your exterior.
"You came," Kayce's eyes got a little more color added to them.
"I wanted to help," You shrugged. "I wanted to check in on you too."
"I miss you," Kayce sighed.
"I'm sorry," "I'm sorry," You both said at the same time and then chuckled.
Kayce's phone buzzed, signaling his next call was five minutes and he needed to be back in his truck. Kayce looked at you with an apologetic face.
"I have to head back to the office," Kayce sighed. "But will... will you still be here or?"
You cut him off, kissing his lips and letting your fingers sink into his hair. His arms wrapped around your body, pulling you close as he deepened the kiss.
"Don't be too late coming home, honey," You kissed him again, feeling Kayce's hands dips lower on your hips and then squeeze. "You know how I worry about you."
"I'll see you later, baby," Kayce winked before walking out.
