Author's Choice/Requests – There have been a few requests about The Reader and Kayce swimming, whether that be in a lake, or river, or beach, etc. I'm going to venture and say Kayce would never go to the beach...he ain't leaving Montana...so we'll settle on the river. I've already done a few with The Reader and Kayce at the river, so I'll try and do a little something different!
You could see your breath each time you huffed out. You were on your horse, following Kayce who was a few yards a head of you on his horse. It was January, a fresh blanket of snow had fallen and for some unknown reason, you had decided to take Kayce up on his offer to "show you something cool, babe."
"You coming?" Kayce called over his shoulder.
"Give me a break," You rolled your eyes. "I'm like an ice pick back here!"
"Come on," Kayce waved you on. "Just a little bit longer. I promise it'll be worth it."
"If it's not then you can sleep on the couch tonight," You mumbled but with the way Kayce eyed you, you knew he had heard.
A few minutes later you saw Kayce stop on top of a hill. When you made it up there, he smiled at you. Glancing around your eyes widened in shocked.
A head of you looked like something out of a magical place. There were icicles hanging from the trees over the river, which had frozen over in various intricate designs. The snow was pristine, looking like nothing had disturbed it in ages.
"Wow," You breathed out.
"Told ya," Kayce smirked. "Come on."
Kayce hopped down from his horse, his boots muffled by the snow. He grabbed onto your reigns too as you dismounted slower than he did. You patted your horse's neck as Kayce walked them over to a tree to be tied too.
Carefully, you made your way down to the river, making sure you didn't step wrong and go tumbling since you couldn't see which way the ground went. You made it close to what you thought was the edge when something cold and wet hit your cheek.
Your black coat was dusted with snow now as you looked down. Looking up you saw Kayce walking toward you with a content smile on his face.
"Hope that was worth it," You raised an eyebrow to him. "Cause that's the only time you'll be doing that."
"Don't know what you're talking about," Kayce shrugged, stepping up to where you were standing.
You watched him take a deep breath and look around.
"It's beautiful," You said quietly.
"Thought you might like it," Kayce reached over and pulled you closer to him.
"How did you know it would look like this?" You asked him, reaching around his back, you gloved fingers digging into his back pocket.
"My mom used to bring us here," Kayce said, looking at you. "Just wanted to share it with you."
"Kayce..." You smiled up at him. "Thank you for thinking of me."
Kayce leaned down and pressed a kiss to your lips. For a split second, you felt warmer and stepped closer to him, tucking yourself into his side.
"I actually had my first kiss here," Kayce said.
You leaned back from him.
"You don't have to share everything with me, babe," You giggled at Kayce's nervous look.
"I didn't mean-"
"I know you didn't," You pushed him gently. "So...who was it?"
"Lilly Jameson," Kayce said.
"Sounds like she'd be a terrible kisser," You mumbled.
"Eh, I thought it was nice," Kayce shrugged. "Didn't have much to go by though."
"Why am I getting jealous of some kid I bet?" You laughed.
"Cause you're thinking of someone else kissing your lover," Kayce pressed his lips against your cheek, making loud kissing noises.
"Calm down, cowboy," You tried to wiggle away from Kayce. "Obviously she wasn't good, or she'd still be standing here."
"She died when we were teenagers," Kayce said.
"Oh my God," You felt terrible.
But Kayce then smirked at you, and you realized he was joking.
"God you're an asshole!" You slapped his arm. "If that river wasn't frozen, I'd throw you in it."
"You love me," Kayce wrapped his gloved hands around your waist and pulled you into him, his lips finding yours.
You melted against Kayce, kissing him back as one of your arms wrapped around his neck. He walked you backwards a few steps and your back hit a tree truck. Kayce's lips moved to your neck, sucking lightly on your skin under your jaw. Your hands pulled him closer by his jacket.
You made out for a few more minutes, enjoying the feeling of Kayce's body pressed against yours, his tongue dancing with yours while you did as much as you could with the temperatures being so cold.
"We should go back," You said breathlessly.
"What? Why?" Kayce asked.
"Because I want you but I'm not about to jump your bones in a foot of snow," You giggled.
"Oh...see I was just showing you where Lilly kissed me," Kayce smirked.
You reached up and gently slapped Kayce's cheek, knowing that although he was teasing you could never really be angry with him about this.
"But don't worry," Kayce leaned closer. "You're much better."
You grabbed his collar and tugged him closer, your lips brushing.
"I better be," You mumbled, turning so Kayce was now pressed against the tree.
You took a few steps away, looking at Kayce watching you. You bit your lips, enjoying how his hair was messed up by your fingers and his lips were red thanks to yours and only yours.
"Yeah," Kayce eyed you up and down. "You're better than the rest, baby."
"Hmm," You joked. "Sounds like someone is seeing that he was indeed being an asshole earlier and is now trying to make up for it."
"Yeah, but you'll still love me anyways," Kayce lunged for you.
Your laughter filled the cold air as you and Kayce made your way back to your horses to head back to the lodge.
Once you got back there, after you warmed up, you showed Kayce just how much better you were than the rest of those girls out there.
