Request/idea: Kayce and y/n spend the day outside working but it's real hot and y/n passes out which scares Kayce and he brings her inside and keeps an eye on her for the rest of the weekend like makes her breakfast in bed.

Author's Note – so I changed it to dinner in bed...and while that sounds like smut it's legit 'dinner' Lol

It was your first Montana summer, but you didn't expect it to get this hot. After spending a few months in Wyoming, you found yourself shaking hands with John Dutton to be his veterinarian tech for the summer t his ranch in Montana. It would be a test run for you to see if you were a good fit for the ranch.

Currently, you were busy tagging cows. While that wasn't a usual job for a vet tech, it seemed like everyone on Yellowstone helped in different areas. Case in point, John's son Kayce was out with all of the workers today to help.

The youngest Dutton was quiet but friendly. You had had a few interactions with him and two nights out in town. There hadn't been much more to come from the two of you due to your demanding job and Kayce splitting time with his son from his previous marriage. But you liked the cowboy, maybe a little too fast.

You leaned back up and took your hat off to wipe your forehead. It was a little stuffy, but you blamed it on the altitude since you were all working up in the highest pasture on the ranch. Something still felt off to you, but you weren't sure what was going on. You reached over to your wrist and counted your pulse... you were low.

Anxiety started to creep into your mind as you looked around. Rip was too far for you to ask him, but then your eyes landed on Kayce who was just a few feet from you.

"Hey, Kayce," You called and took a step. Kayce turned and looked over at you with a smile, thinking you were just going to say something. But his smile faded quickly as he made his way over to meet you. But you didn't get far because soon your vision turned yellow, and then black.

When your eyes slowly blinked open you saw you were in a bedroom, a soft blanket thrown over you. ?Someone had taken your boots and gloves off, you could see your hat sitting on a chair with the rest of your stuff. You looked to your right and saw a few personal items on the nightstand. Looking around the room you saw it was a guy's room, but it smelled good. You leaned up into a sitting position and held your head.

You felt a million times better, the heat must have just gotten to you. The last thing you remembered was Kayce walking over to you.

Wait.

Were you in Kayce's room? He lived in the foreman's cabin on the ranch, and seeing as how you didn't recognize any of this and you had never been inside the foreman's cabin, that's where you must be. You felt your cheeks warm at the thought of being in Kayce's bed. There was a knock at the door before it was pushed open.

"Hey," Kayce walked inside. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay," You cleared your throat. "Did I faint?"

"Yeah," Kayce nodded, sitting down by your legs. "The heat must have gotten to you. We didn't bring enough water for everyone."

"I knew something was off with me but I didn't recognize it in time," You ran a hand through your hair. "I'm sorry."

"I'm sorry you fainted," Kayce looked at the nightstand. "There's water and some Advil for you. You hit the ground pretty hard when you fell. I couldn't get to you in time."

"No," You shook your head. "You've done enough."

You grabbed the water and pills, swallowing and chugging quickly. You placed the glass back on the counter and brought your legs to the side of the bed.

"What are you doing?" Kayce asked.

"I'm gonna go back out there?" You were confused. "I need to finish."

"You're not going back out there," Kayce shook his head. "You fainted."

"Well, yeah," You nodded. "But I'm okay now. I just got too hot."

"I think you need to stay here," Kayce stood up, blocking you from getting up. "Rest some more. It's already close to supper anyways."

"It is?" You looked at the clock on the table and saw it was after five already. "Have I been asleep that long?"

"Sleep some more," Kayce smiled. "I'll wake you for supper."

"Kayce?" You asked looking up. "Am I in your bed?"

"Yeah," Kayce smirked. "But don't worry."

"Why?" You asked as he made his way to the door again.

"I kinda like it," He smiled before walking out. You rested back in the bed for another hour or so before you heard the front door to the cabin open ad shut again. Steps carried through until you saw Kayce pushing the door push with a tray.

"What are you doing?" You ask leaning up.

"Supper," Kayce held up the tray.

It smelled delicious, just like something Gator would have made so that told you he brought it from the main house and not whatever the wranglers were having. Your mouth watered, which was a good sign your body temps were mostly normal now.

"You didn't have to," You said as you brought your legs under you while Kayce sat the tray down in front of you. He laid down across the bottom of the bed, his elbow propping him up. It was then you noticed it was enough food for two.

"Mind if I join you?" HE smiled up at you.

"Not at all," You felt yourself blush.

The two of you dug into the food.

"You feeling better?" Kayce asked you again.

"I am," You nodded, taking a sip of your water. "Thank you again for helping me."

"You scared me when you fell," Kayce said, chewing. "Didn't know what was wrong. Has that happened before?"

"Once or twice," You shrugged. "I just need to remember to bring more water with me next time. That is if your father doesn't fire me for this."

"Why would he fire you?" Kayce frowned.

"I'm still in training in his eyes," You sighed. "I don't think I'm impressing him too much either, but I'm trying to prove I could be a permanent position here."

"I think you're doing great," Kayce said.

"Thanks," You smiled. "But I don't think fainting because you didn't drink enough water is necessarily a gold star in his eyes."

"Don't worry about him," Kayce shook his head. "I already told him to hire you full-time in August."

"What?" You paused bringing another bite to your lips.

"I said you should be permanent here," Kayce smiled.

"You haven't even really seen my work much," You raised an eyebrow. "In fact, mostly you and I have just..."

Kayce smirked up at you when you realized it.

"You wasn't me around for you," You tilted your head to the side.

"You're a great tech," Kayce leaned up to mirror you sitting. "There's no denying that, but we could get any tech up here. So yes, I voted for you because I like you too. I like having you around."

"A bit selfish don't you think?" You giggled.

"Maybe," Kayce eyed you. "But you are in my bed."

"That you put me in!" You laughed.

"Details," Kayce waved you off.

The two of you finished your meal while you thought maybe it wasn't too bad to have a crush on the rancher's son.
