Request – Reader hates scary movies but Kayce loves them so they watch one together and she can't sleep at night she jumps at every little noise.
"You gonna make it?" Kayce asked you as he turned the TV off.
"I hate you," You mumbled into his shoulder.
You were somewhat behind Kayce on the couch, or your top half was. You were using his shoulder to help shield you from the horrors you just watched.
Kayce loved horror films, almost to the point where it concerned you. But you despised them, they terrified you and made you jumpy for at least a week after you watched them. You just didn't like surprises to begin with but having an ax murderer behind them was your worst nightmare.
"Come on, babe," Kayce patted your thigh as he stood up.
You watched him turn off the lamp on the table as he made his way into the bedroom. You sat there for a beat until the shadows got to be a little too creepy for your taste, so you sprung up.
You sat down on the bed as Kayce was in the bathroom getting ready for bed. You were trying to calm yourself down, twisting your hair around your fingers as a coping mechanism. You didn't hear Kayce come back in.
"Do you,"
"Shit!" You cried, standing up fast and spinning around to face a wide-eyed Kayce.
"I was just asking if you wanted the bathroom," Kayce held up his hands like you were some animal.
"Oh," You breathed out. "Yeah, thanks."
You walked in after grabbing your pajamas and got ready yourself. After splashing some cool water on your face, you turned the light off and walked back into the bedroom. Kayce was laying on his back, messing with his phone.
"You okay there, jumpy?" He joked with you.
"Not funny," You rolled your eyes, throwing your dirty clothes in the hamper before getting into bed.
"It's just a movie," Kayce smirked at you.
"I told you I hate those," You pulled the covers up as you snuggled in.
"Wait...are you really scared?" Kayce leaned over you.
"Leave me alone," You glared at him.
"Baby," Kayce chuckled. "It's not real."
"Easy for you," You sighed. "You're the weirdo who likes to watch those things."
"Alright," Kayce rolled his eyes and pressed a kiss to your forehead before he rolled back over on his side, turning his light out. "Night, baby."
You huffed and laid there...and laid there...and laid there.
An hour after and you were still awake, your ears picking up every single movement around you. Any move the house-made, as a tap on the window from a tree or plant, even the steady breathing of Kayce had you on alert.
A scratch on the widow made you sit up sharply. You looked to where the mood was highlighting the window and saw a tiny part of the pine tree closest to your window was tapping it. You let out a breath and placed your hand over your heart.
You wanted some water, but you'd be damned if you were getting out of bed in the dark to walk into another room for anything. You glanced over at Kayce who was passed out, looking so peaceful you couldn't wake him.
A creek sounded in the attic. Maybe you could wake him?
"Kace..." You leaned down next to him.
Another tap outside.
"Kayce..." You placed your hand on his shoulder.
Kayce blinked a few times before his eyes met yours.
"What's wrong?" He leaned up on his elbows.
"Nothing," You scooted closer to him, nudging his arm up so you could slide under it.
Kayce seemed to sense what you were doing and reached around you, letting you settle against him before he lowered his arm on you. You tangled your legs with his own as you breathed him in. Suddenly it wasn't deathly silent, Kayce's heartbeat creating a steady sound for you to focus on.
"It's not real," Kayce murmured against your forehead.
"I hate you," You whispered back and Kayce laughed.
"I love you too," Kayce sighed into you.
