Request: Kayce is out of town for whatever reason and y/n gets a call from Tate saying he's been arrested (he'd be older here...like 15) and that he didn't want to call his mom or dad.

There was talk of a Part Two

You watched Kayce pull up in his truck and slowly get out, shut his door, and make his way over to where you were sitting on the front porch steps leading up to the house. His expression was once of a mix of emotions, pissed off, tired, relief, and others.

"Welcome back," You offered Kayce a smile.

"Where is he?" Kayce asked.

"Inside," You sighed. "But I'm doing well, babe. Thanks for asking, I missed you too."

Kayce let his shoulders drop and took a few more steps towards you.

"I missed you," He gave you a tired smile. "Sorry."

You held out a cup of coffee for him, your own mug sitting next to you on the step. He took it and sat down next to you with a sigh. Your hand came up to hold his shoulder closest to you as you leaned against him. You hadn't slept much, after talking with Kayce for an hour or so, you went to bed but tossed and turned for the most part of the night.

"Two weeks?" Kayce asked, looking out over the pastures in front of you.

"And helping with the chores every morning," You nodded. "I told him he could start tomorrow though since we got back so late."

Kayce eyed you. "So much for saying you were tough."

"He was tired," You sighed. "I was tired. I also had to solo, stepparent this."

"Could have called Monica," Kayce looked down at you.

"And face her rath?" You chuckled. "No thanks...she already challenges me with Tate on positive things. I don't want to have to go twelve rounds with her on something negative."

"You're perfect with him," Kayce shook his head. "She'd have agree with you on this."

"She never agrees with me," You sighed and leaned your cheek against his shoulder, your hand looping through his arm now. "It's her...I'm his actual mother...thing she has going."

You felt Kayce press his lips to your head and shut your eyes. He was trying to calm you down and you appreciated it, having spent the night with not a whole lot of help.

"But who did he call?" He whispered.

You smiled, turning to brush your nose again Kayce's. "Because he's scared of her and you."

"Good," Kayce smiled. "'Bout time someone fears me."

The front door opening up made you both turn and see Tate slowly making his way outside. He looked pale, which probably was a good thing in your mind. It meant he realized what he had done and there was still a part of him that was scared.

"Hey dad," Tate muttered.

"Hey," Kayce sighed and your hand on his arm tightened.

Tate made his way to sit down on the other side of you but a step lower than the one you and Kayce were one. He faced to the right, so he was able to look at both of you. He wrapped his arms around his bent knees, and you made a mental note he needed longer jeans.

"I'm sorry," Tate looked at his feet.

"It was pretty stupid from what I hear," Kayce's voice was blunt, and you eyed him to make sure he didn't take it all out on Tate at once. You had talked with him, given him his punishment...Kayce needed to be his father now.
