Request - Reader is cooking for a holiday Kayce comes in to find Tate and her cooking

"Dad, she's teaching me how to cook "

"I see that buddy "

"Do you want to help "

"Sure "

They get flour everywhere.

"Okay, so it says now we mix the blueberries with the sugar and lemon juice every ten minutes," You read from the recipe book. "With a wooden spoon."

"Every ten minutes?" Tate asked you. "For how long?"

"Thirty minutes...so how many times it that?" You looked up at him.

"Uh," Tate looked to the ceiling. "Three times, right?"

"Correct," You nodded. "Now let's get started on the crust."

You and Tate were making John's favorite pie for his birthday tomorrow, blueberry lemon. A few days ago, John had been telling you a story of his wife and how she created the recipe and it turned into his favorite. So, you thought it would be a nice gift, seeing as how John didn't want anything.

"Daddy!" Tate looked up from the stool he was standing on next to you.

Kayce had walked through the back door, taking his hat off and smiling at the two of you. He had been down at the barn with the wranglers this morning, probably getting in their way but you were happy to share him so he wouldn't have been in your way.

"What's going on here?" Kayce looked between the two of you.

"She's teaching me how to cook a pie," Tate said.

"Bake," You corrected him gently.

"I see that buddy," Kayce walked around the island to your other side.

"Do you want to help?" Tate asked, leaning forward.

Kayce leaned in and kissed you, his hand resting on the small of your back.

"Sure," Kayce smiled at you.

"Tate, go get me the sugar out of the back pantry," You asked sweetly, and Tate hopped down, running out of the room.

"You smell," You joked, reaching up to pull Kayce's face back to your lips for another kiss.

Kayce wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into him.

"Obvious not too bad," He joked.

"Guys stop!" Tate said walking back in with the container of sugar. "I got the sugar."

"Me too," Kayce whispered, earning a smack against his shoulder form you.

The three of our worked for a while in mixing the dough for the pie crust. You were looking for the pizza cutter once two little balls were formed.

"I'll be right back," You said to them and went into the pantry again, over to the tool side and found what you were looking for.

There was a large thud, making you roll your eyes and quickly walk back into the kitchen area. Your eyes almost popped out of your head at what you saw.

Flour was everywhere. Over the counters, down the cabinets, all over Tate and Kayce. Tate was on the floor, the stool across from him as if he slipped when he was holding the flour container and Kayce was bending down to help Tate stand up.

"I-It was an accident," Tate said, looking at you.

"You two are a mess!" You said placing the cutter down on the counter and carefully stepping around the flour on the floor over to them.

"Just flour," Kayce chuckled.

"You're picking this up," You put your hands on your hips. "And supper is in two hours so Gator will need the kitchen soon."

"So bossy," Kayce reached over and grabbed a handful of flour, tossing it at your cheek.

"Kayce Dutton!" You yelled with Tate howling between you both.

"Now you're messy," Tate giggled.

"Uh huh," You narrowed your eyes at Kayce.

The closest thing to you was the egg carton from earlier so you grabbed one.

"Babe...no," Kayce tried to grab your wrist, but you were faster and cracked the egg over his head.

It was war then.

Flour, sugar, eggs, and water were used as arsenal between the three of you for the next few minutes. Your laughter filling up the house as you ran around the kitchen. But it was when Kayce slipped on the floor and dragged you down with him, when Tate declared himself the winner.

You tried to catch your breath as you sat on the floor, looking around you.

"What a mess," You laughed.

"Yeah, Gator is gonna," Kayce stopped at a large gasp.

"The fuck happened here?" Gator stood I the doorway.

"We were making a pie," Tate smiled.

"I'm sorry, Gator," You stood up slowly. "I know it's a mess, but we'll clean it up."

"Get out," Gator pointed.

"Really Gator, we'll help," Kayce stood up.

"Get...out..." Gator said.

The three of you raced out of the backdoor, laughing.

"C'mere, Tate," Kayce walked around the side of the main house to where a hose was.

You leaned back against the side as Kayce hosed Tate off as best he could, so there wouldn't be baking material dragged through the house. Water droplets would dry off at least.

"Now go upstairs and change into some clean clothes," You giggled. "Leave your wet ones in the bathtub, please."

Tate ran off, you watching him until he turned the corner. You then felt water hit your side briefly and jumped. Looking back Kayce was smirking at you with the hose pointed.

"You are dead," You said, trying to be serious.

Five minutes later, you and Kayce were soaked and laughing. Kayce threw the hose off to the side as you wiped your face away from most of the water. The warm summer sun feeling good on your skin. Kayce wrapped his arms around you.

"We still don't have a pie for your dad," You giggled.

"Gator will do something," Kayce shrugged. "But thanks for teaching my boy."

"I think we taught him what not to do," You shook your head. "He's gonna turn out just like you someday and then you'll get what you deserve."

"As long as he finds his version of you, he'll be fine," Kayce winked.

"You're lucky you're smooth," You rolled your eyes as Kayce pulled you in for one more kiss.
