Author's Note – Hope this isn't too cheesy at the end LOL

"May I help you?" The woman behind the counter asked as you walked into the Livestock Commissioner's building.

"I'm here to see Kayce," You sighed, your irritation growing.

"Kayce?" The woman asked.

"Dutton?" You raised an eyebrow. "The Livestock Commissioner?"

"Oh, Commissioner Dutton," The women nodded. "He's on a call right now, would you mind waiting?"

"Sure," You went over and sat on one of the leather chairs in the reception area.

"Who may I tell him is waiting?" The woman got up from her desk.

"Uh...that would be his very angry girlfriend," You smiled.

The woman's eyes got large as she hurried off down the hall. You waited about two minutes before you stood back up and walked over to the hallway. The woman rounded the corner, nearly running you over.

"I'm so sorry, Y/N," She gushed. "I've heard about you just haven't met you. You can go right on back."

"Thanks," You nodded and walked down the hall to the door with Commissioner Dutton on the frosty glass.

You opened it and saw Kayce on the phone. He gave you a tight smile as he continued with his conversation. You glanced around, noticing it to be a pretty bare office. Your eyes fell onto his desk and saw two photos in frames. One was Kayce and Tate finishing last year. You remembered because it was you who took the photo.

The other one was you and Kayce. You looked closer, not recognizing where or when the picture had been taken. Kayce had his arm slung over your shoulders, a beer in his hand while you were leaning into him. You had on one of his long-sleeved shirts and your hair was in braids. Both of you had rosy cheeks and warm smiles on.

"Hey," Kayce said, breaking your thought process.

"Hi," You looked over at him.

"What're you doing here?" Kayce smiled at you from where he was sitting behind his desk.

He looked good. You remembered thinking just that when he left you in bed this morning, kissing you before he drove off. The memory almost made you forget why you were here.

"You threw a man under a cattle guard?" You asked, crossing your arms.

"Who told you that?" Kayce leaned back in his chair.

"Kayce," You tilted your head, not wanting to joke around.

"He learned his lesson," Kayce sighed.

"You can't throw people under cattle guards," You slapped your hands on your thighs.

"It ain't against the law," Kayce smirked up at you.

"It ain't the wild west anymore, cowboy," You challenged him.

You walked over and leaned back on his desk, still looking down at him.

"You can't abuse this office," You sighed.

"Didn't know my father was here," Kayce raised an eyebrow.

"You're feeling pretty good about yourself right now, ain't you?" You shook your head.

"Got that guy to see the light and remove them," Kayce shrugged. "I'd say that was a good day's work."

He stood up, now taller than you, and leaned down so his fists held him up on the desk. This made him come eye to eye with you.

"I thought I'd get to go home to my pretty girlfriend tonight," Kayce smiled at you.

"You are feeling good," You chuckled.

Kayce leaned in and almost kissed you but you stopped him with your finger pressing against his lips.

"That problem with that is, I don't make out with douchebags," You whispered.

"How am I a douchebag?" Kayce asked against your finger.

"Throwing people under cattle guards is pretty douchey," You rolled your eyes.

"He was a dick transplant," Kayce groaned out of frustration.

Kayce reached up and pulled your hand away from his face. The smirk on your face seemed to egg him on though.

"A lot of folks would say what I did was justified," Kayce said.

"Oh sure," You nodded. "Cause when I want lawful, rule-following citizen...rural Montana is exactly where I turn to first."

"I seem to recall one rural Montana guy you do turn to a lot?" Kayce pulled you up and against his chest. "Seem to remember some nights where you turn over and over and over-"

"I get it," You pushed against his chest.

Kayce ended up pulling you right back though.

"Why do you care about some out-of-state nobody?" Kayce asked.

"I don't care about him," You shook your head. "I care about you...and I don't want you doing something because of your hot head and then having to come to terms later on down the road because you didn't follow procedure."

"I make the procedure," Kayce wiggled his eyebrows. "That's what the badge is for."

"That badge is going straight to your head," You pointed out with a laugh.

"Funny," Kayce smirked. "Wasn't it you the other night who went on and on about how hot I looked in a badge?"

"We all have lapses in judgment," You said in a monotone.

"C'mere," Kayce leaned in but you turned your cheek.

"What is your deal?" Kayce sighed, stepping back from you.

"What?" You challenged him. "You gonna put me under a cattle guard for not kissing you?"

"I just might," Kayce narrowed his eyes.

"I would call the police," You put your hands on your hips.

"I am the police, baby," Kayce acted fast, swopping you over his shoulder and walking over to the couch.

He plopped you down on your back and straddled your waist some. His hands went to your sides and soon you were pleading with him to stop, laughter filling up his office.

"Stop!" You laughed.

"You done with that mouth?" Kayce asked.

"Never!" You tried to fight back but Kayce pinned you down, his face close to yours.

"I'm sorry," Kayce whispered. "Next time I'll try to talk things through instead of choosing something more physical."

"Thank you," You felt his hands loosen their grip on you.

Kayce went to pull away but your arms wrapped around his neck quickly. You pulled him back down over you.

"But...just with work stuff, right?" You asked him. "You'll still do the physical stuff with me?"

"You didn't want the cattle guard," Kayce shrugged but he didn't move.

You pulled him close, your lips brushing.

"Moo," You whispered before kissing him.
