Request - Hey can we get one where it is Evelyn's death anniversary and everyone except for y/n and Tate are feeling some way about it and the ways that the reader can help with the cope.
Kayce was already up and gone by the time you opened your eyes. It was still dark outside, but you remembered him saying something about his dad wanting to go riding. Why so early in the morning you didn't know, but you were also half-asleep last night when Kayce mentioned it to you.
You rolled out, quickly changing for the day and heading downstairs. Tate was still asleep as you passed his bedroom. But when you got to the kitchen you ran into Beth who was sitting at the island.
"Good morning," You smiled softly at your sister-in-law as you walk over to pour yourself some coffee.
When Beth didn't respond to you, you glanced over your shoulder at her to see her still looking at her coffee mug. She looked sad, as you turned to face her, which was an expression normally not on Beth Dutton's face.
"Beth?" You asked her.
Beth's head shot up at you.
"What?" She asked.
"I just said morning?" You tilted your head. "You okay?"
"Fine," Beth stood up and walked out of the room.
Not liking how she left, you followed her into the living room. Beth saw you and rolled her eyes.
"Said I'm fine," She looked over at you.
"And I've known you for too long to know when you're lying," You gave her a pointed look. "What's wrong."
"I just don't like today," Beth shrugged.
"Thursday?" You asked, not following as to why today wasn't a good day.
"You don't know?" Beth asked, but she wasn't being rude about it.
"I guess not?" You held your mug between your hands.
"Y/N..." Beth sighed. "Today's our mother's death anniversary."
That hit you like a ton of bricks.
"Oh, Beth," You started.
"Don't," Beth held up her hand. "It's fine."
"It's not fine," You offered her a sad smile. "I'm really sorry."
Beth gave you a funny look. She nodded her head at you and walked out the door to the back porch. You stood there with a frown on your face. What a sad day for everyone in this family. You wished you had known, but now that you thought about it...in the two years you had been married to Kayce, you hadn't been here...with all of them, on this exact day. Kayce never mentioned it to you and that made you feel even worse.
"Y/N?" Tate asked behind you.
"Hey buddy," You smiled at him. "You want some breakfast?"
You went and made Tate some food, trying to judge if he knew what today was but it turned out the kid was like you, totally in the dark. You left Tate in the TV room with his cereal as you went to pour yourself another cup of coffee.
John walked in through the kitchen, pausing when he noticed you.
"Good morning," He said.
You looked at his face and noticed the same expression that was on Beth's.
"Good morning," You reached for another mug. "Coffee?"
"Uh, please," John walked over to you as you handed him the mug. "Thanks."
