Request - y/n was always used to dating selfish jerks who never really did anything with her other then use her, but she falls for Kayce and after 6 months they get married (no Tate or Monica) but she let Beth and her little sister plan the whole wedding so she didn't choose any songs or anything, so during the reception when Kayce grabs her for the first dance, she's so confused and doesn't understand why he WANTS to dance with her, to which he's just sweet and says he wants to dance with her for the rest of his life.
"We just didn't think Kayce or any of those kids would make it," One of the Dutton's neighbors said to the small group you were in.
"Sure, John can keep 'em alive," Another agreed. "But Evelyn was the rock out here."
You took a sip of your champagne as your eyes glanced around the room.
"But look at Kayce now," Someone beside you said. "Got himself his own Evelyn now to keep him alive."
Your eyes fell on the topic of this conversation. Kayce was standing around his own small group of people over by one of the bars set up. While his suit jacket was still on, his tie was now gone, and the first few buttons undone on his white dress shirt. He looked more relaxed now that you both weren't up in front of everyone promising your love.
Kayce looked over, feeling your eyes on him. He brought the beer he was drinking up to his lips as he winked at you. You heard someone ask a question but didn't realize it was directly to you util you noticed the silence around you.
"Sorry?" You looked at the group, feeling your cheeks blush.
"We asked what made you want to get married on the ranch?" A woman asked, Margaret, was it?
"Oh, we-uh...didn't plan this," You shrugged. "My sister and Kayce's sister, Beth, did all this."
"You didn't plan your own wedding?" A guy asked.
"I just wanted to get married to Kayce," You smiled. "It was everyone else who wanted this...so Kayce and I decided to let them plan it and we'd just show up when needed."
"Sounds easy for you," The woman laughed.
"I'd do it all again like this," You raised your glass to them and slipped away.
Speaking of your new sister-in-law, Beth walked up to you as you stood off at the edge of the tent. So far, everything had been perfect. While you and Kayce had been slightly nervous to have Beth and your sister organize everything, there hadn't been anything, yet you wouldn't have picked yourself.
"Still here?" Beth smirked.
"No cold feet for me," You giggled. "Surprisingly."
"Why is that surprising?" Beth asked you, handing you a new champagne glass.
"Just..." You trailed off, your eyes finding Kayce who was now standing with Lee and Jamie. "Never have I been with someone like Kayce."
"We could still leave," Beth whispered, making you laugh.
"I mean more that...none of the guys I've been with would have done this for me," You sighed. "With Kayce, it's like he views me as a true partner, his equal...it's just nice."
"Because that's what you are Y/N," Beth nodded at you.
"Still getting used to that I guess," You smiled at her. "Thank you, by the way...for all of this. It's really been a beautiful evening."
"I like your sister," Beth said. "She's a little pushy, but we did good work."
Beth's watched dinged with some message, making Beth glance down.
"Oh, on to the next thing," She smiled at you. "See you later."
You laughed as she walked over to Kayce. You watched Beth say something to her little brother before Kayce nodded and handed his empty beer glass to Lee. Kayce then made his way over to you.
"Hi there," Kayce smiled. "Looking for my wife...have you seen her?"
"Your wife, eh?" You laughed, looking around quickly. "I don't know, she may have decked out. You probably should have thought about that one."
"Oh, I did," Kayce wrapped his hands around your waist. "She ain't going nowhere."
"Smooth," You giggled, placing your hands on his chest. "How much longer are we here for again?"
"Well, Kayce said. "We gotta dance first and then I Think we might be able to sneak away."
"Dance?" You looked at him.
"Yes?" Kayce raised an eyebrow at you. "You know when two people move their feet around on a floor to music?"
"What dance?" You were still confused.
"The first dance?" Kayce said. "Our dance?"
"You want to...dance with me?" Your voice was soft.
Kayce looked into your eyes, and it clicked with him finally. You had told him about your previous relationships and how they were more transactional than loving. Sure, you had danced with boys when you were little, but in the past decade, you couldn't remember a time a guy had asked you to dance without some agenda in mind.
Kayce reached up and cupped your cheek, his thumb rubbing gently across your skin. His eyes were bright under the lights hanging from the ceiling of the tent. You felt yourself relax as you looked into them.
"Of course, I wanna dance with you," Kayce said. "I wanna dance with you for the rest of my life."
Had Kayce not been holding onto your hip, you may have melted right then and there. You leaned in, your lips meeting Kayce's in a sweet kiss.
"Come on," Kayce mumbled against your lips. "Before Beth drags us out there."
Kayce led you to the dance floor and twirled you around once before pulling you into his arms. Your hand rested on one of his shoulders while your other held Kayce's hand. A slow, soft, beat flowed across the floor as Kayce swayed you back and forth. It wasn't rushed, just romantic as the two of you smiled at one another. You couldn't even really hear the song, you just got lost in Kayce's eyes.
A little while later, you were in the front seat of Kayce old pickup truck headed to a small cabin the two of you would stay in for the evening before leaving tomorrow up to Canada for your honeymoon. Kayce reached over and held your hand on top of your lap where your dress was bunched up around due to you sitting in the truck.
"Did you find her?" You asked with a smile.
"Hmm?" Kayce glanced at you. "Find who?"
"Your wife?" You giggled. "You had been looking for her and I just wanted to make sure you found her...forever is a long time."
"I found her," Kayce smirked. "But if you ask me, I don't think forever is long enough."
