Request: The reader moves in with Kayce and they are close to getting engaged when the reader mentions how much she hates jewelry (she's still girly just not into flashy fancy things) so she doesn't really want to wear an engagement ring one day and she also mentions how she wants to keep her last name (since she lives so far from her family). And they get into a heated discussion with Kayce getting a bit possessive saying how much it would mean to him for her to take his last name he doesn't even want her to hyphenate and he gets a bit jealous saying it doesn't have to be a fancy ring but he wants her to wear a ring. Feel free to change things just thought it was a bit different and would like to see some of Kayce's possessive side.
It was a very rare occurrence when you would get home after Kayce did, especially now that you were three weeks into living with him. Not that you spent ninety percent of your time living at the Dutton's ranch before he officially asked you to move in with him, but now it was official.
You sighed, pushing open the front door and making your way up the stairs and down the hall to the bedroom Kayce had been living in. You had stayed for a few hours after work for a co-worker's engagement party at a local bar. You smelled like smoke and whiskey and all you wanted was a shower and your pillow.
"Hey," Kayce smiled up from where he was writing on some forms in the corner of the bedroom where the fireplace was. He looked comfortable, boots off, his shirt untucked, and his hair still damp from what you suspected was a shower.
"Hey," You replied with a tired smile, pulling your arms from your blazer and setting your work bag down on the ground before making your way over to him.
Kayce moved the forms to the side and held out one of his arms for you to sit down on his lap, throwing your legs over both of his and wrapping an arm around his neck. Your forehead touched his as you took in a deep breath. He smelled good and like your Kayce.
"How was the dinner?" Kayce asked, looking up slightly at you.
"A lot," You giggled. "But Shannon really enjoyed herself so that's all that mattered."
"Why was it a lot?" Kayce asked.
"She's just nothing like me," You shrugged. "Or she likes things I don't."
"What do you mean?" Kayce rubbed your side lovingly.
"Well her engagement ring for one thing," You pushed your hair behind your ear. "It's huge...like massive, four carrots. I just have never been a big jewelry fan and I feel like that would just get in my way so much you know?"
Kayce just nodded, listening to you intently but you weren't really catching on since your mind was focused on the dinner from earlier.
"I don't even know if I'd want an engagement ring," You played with the buttons on Kayce's shirt as you spoke. "It just seems a little like...look at me or something."
"Ain't that how people will know you're married?" Kayce questioned.
"There are other ways to know someone is married," You shrugged, standing back up and walking over to your dresser to take out your pajamas. "Oh, don't get me started on how Shannon can't wait to become a Douglas."
"Douglas?" Kayce asked watching you.
"Her fiance's last name," You glanced back at him over your shoulder. "I think she said it eight times tonight alone...I just don't understand why some girls get so caught up in the guy's last name. I'm also the only Y/LN in the State of Montana I bet...kinda makes me want to just keep my last name forever."
You pulled out your sleeping shorts and tossed them on the bed over your shirt already there. You kicked off your boots and placed them next to Kayce's by the closet door, and turned to see Kayce have a weird look on his face.
