Request: You choose how and the details but something where Kayce proposed...maybe a double pov of the reader and Kayce or just Kayce's side?

Author's Note – So I have never done something from Kayce's POV so this will be interesting. Go easy on me, please :)

Reader POV

Kayce was acting weird. Weirder than normal at least. Sure, being the Livestock Commissioner was a busy job, but he seemed extra busy these last few days. You knew John didn't have him doing anything because you had been with John the past few days for the greater part of the time. He seemed relaxed, maybe even slightly happy. Which even added to the weirdness.

Currently, you were sitting on the front porch of the north cabin you and Kayce lived in. It was smaller, but perfect for the two of you for the past two years you had been there. It was cozy and warm in the winter, a cool break in the summer, and peaceful in between. It was a spring day, a cool breeze drifting through your hair hanging from where you untied your braid for riding earlier. The sun was warm on your cheeks as you looked out among the patch of wildflowers off the side of your cabin.

You saw Kayce's truck pulling up and wondered where he had to rush off to on a Saturday. Last you checked state employees got that day off along with the one after it. You watched him get out of his truck and walk towards the house, still not seeing you. He looked nervous, muttering to himself which was not like him. His hands were flexed as he stepped. He went straight past you and into the cabin, it was almost comical to you.

Waiting a few moments, you heard his boots again and giggled softly, knowing he realized you weren't in there.

"Y/N?" You heard him call from inside.

"Just missed her," You called back out, smiling from your chair. A few steps later and Kayce was looking at you from the door.

Kayce's POV

I walked right by her. How could I have just walked right by her? There she is, sitting in the chair looking prettier than ever and I just walked inside because I'm an idiot.

My heart was racing a mile a minute. My hands felt like I could even hold on to a breath with how nervous I was and sweaty. My back pocket felt like it weighed a thousand pounds with that tiny little black box. But Y/N was just sitting there with a small smile on her face, watching me. I needed to say something or else she might think I'd lost my mind. Maybe I have?

"Hey," I said, walking over to her.

"Hey cowboy," Y/N smiled, looking up at me. "What's go you racing around?"

"Just had some stuff to do at the office," I shrugged.

"On a Saturday?" Y/N rolled her eyes but stood up. "Don't make me call the governor to knock some sense into her."

"M'sure you could do just that," I chuckled, even though my chest tightened. "You look pretty."

Not sure why I blurted that out. Not that she didn't look pretty, she always looks pretty but with what's on my mind...I'm not thinking straight.

"Thanks," Y/N tilted her head to the side. "You sure you're okay?"

"Yeah, baby," I took a deep breath. "I'm more than fine."

I stepped up to her and held her waist with my hands, feeling her fingers trace up and down my arms. Her nose was a bit pink from her ride this morning with my dad. I had asked him to help distract Y/N the past few days so it wouldn't be as obvious I was missing some.

"What are you doing this afternoon?" Y/N asked softly.

Making the biggest decision of my life...is what I thought.

"Come with me," I said, ignoring her question and taking her hand in mine. I led her over to the field of wildflowers covering half our yard and moving off towards the mountain range in the distance.

"Kace..." Y/N called softly. "I don't have shoes on to go much further."

I glanced down at her feet and saw they were bare, her jeans rolled up and her pink toes peeking through the green grass. I stopped and turned around to face her, the toes of my boots a stark contrast to her feet now.

"Thought you looked a little shorter," I smirked.

"Funny," Y/N pushed against my chest softly. "What are you doing out here with me?"

"Y/N..." I started and then stopped. There wasn't anything more I wanted in my life than her. But standing here, about to ask her to be the main forever, I felt a pause. Not because my mind had changed, but because I knew what I was asking her was more than just to be mine.

Her fingers squeezed mine, encouraging me to continue.

"I love you," I said softly.

"I love you too," Y/N smiled.

"I love that you're standing here," I said. "?In your jeans and my shirt, on my family's land, and that you love it here."

"I do?" Y/N looked a little confused but her smile was still there.

"I love that you love my son," I cleared my throat, feeling it tighten at the mention of Tate. "And that you look after him like he's your own."

"Kayce,"

"Let me finish, darlin'," I stepped closer to her, her perfume filling my nostrils and confirming all of this even more for me. "I love that you fit in here, you respect here...I love that you care for my family, even all the crazy. Most importantly I love that you've stuck by me, even when I might not be as lovable as you say."

The sun lit up her eyes in front of me and her hair was a little messy still from the ride earlier I'm sure. She looked beautiful.

"I want to have this every day," I said quietly.

"Me too," Y/N said, her smile fading and a serious look taking over her face. "I want all of this, Kayce."

"Good," I let out an ironic laugh and leaned down on one knee. Y/N's face broke out into a shocked one. "Because we can do just that. Do this...you and me, forever."

"Kayce..." Y/N breathed out, her free hand covering her mouth.

"Y/N Y/LN...will you marry me?"

I held my breath, a pounding in my ear making the seconds feel like hours. I watched her face change, a large smile taking over her lips, her eyes shining brighter than the sun could make them. I focused on her leaning down into me, her knees hitting the soft ground and her arms wrapping around my neck before her words hit my ears.

"Yes...yes...yes!"

I wrapped her in my arms and held her close to me. Elation washed over my shoulders and I felt at home, at peace, even more than I normally do with her arms around me. Y/N pulled back and our noses bumped, her eyes finding mine.

"Wait," I said and reached behind me into my pocket, pulling out the black box. I looked up at her while I opened it, her eyes on the box.

It was a gold band, with two small diamonds on either side of an aquamarine stone. The aquamarine was my mother's and the two diamonds were meant to represent us...but I forgot all about my speech when her eyes looked back into mine and had tears in them.

"It's beautiful..." She cooed. "Isn't that?"

"Yeah," I whispered, and took the ring out, slowly sliding it onto her finger. It fit as it had always been there. "Perfect."

"I love you," Y/N whispered, leaning forward and kissing me.
