Request – Part Two of "Mommy likes cowboys"

"Hold on tight, baby," You called out as you saw your daughter getting distracted by a butterfly while she was supposed to be holding onto Tate.

Kayce had them in one of the corrals, leading the old horse around slowly. Tate was holding onto the reigns while Y/D/N was supposed to be holding onto him.

"Momma, look!" Y/D/N pointed at two more butterflies floating around them.

"I see 'em," You laughed. "They're pretty."

As they passed by you, standing next to the fence, your eyes caught Kayce's as he stood in the middle of the circle. He had been perfect this morning with both of them, teaching Y/D/N how to saddle a horse and all the different things you could teach them. You were slowly falling for him but now you worried your daughter was falling faster.

"I think we're ready for the open," Kayce called out, slowing the horse down.

"Are you sure?" Yu asked, suddenly nervous.

"Don't worry, Y/N," Tate smiled. "Y/D/N will be with me."

You eyed Kayce.

"How many times did the two of you practice that?" Your hands were on your hips as Kayce walked over to the gate next to you.

"Gotta watch out for that Dutton charm, babe," Kayce winked at you as he tied up their horse.

He grabbed Y/D/N from behind Tate and swung her down, letting Tate get down himself. Y/D/N giggled as she smiled up at Kayce. The three of you followed him back to the barn where one of the wranglers were walking out another saddled horse.

"Who gets that one?" Y/D/N asked.

"Your mom and I," Kayce smiled as he took the reins.

"We're sharing?" You asked, crossing your arms.

"The kids are?" Kayce shrugged but his shit-eating grin on his face made you roll your eyes.

You watched Kayce tone up your horse for a few minutes in the corral. Afterwards, he got Tate and Y/D/N situated back on their horse and then hopped up on his...or y'all's. Kayce held his hand down to you.

"Come on, Mommy!" Y/D/N cheered from behind Tate.

You reached out and held Kayce's hand, putting your foot in the stirrup, and hopped up behind him. It took a few seconds, but you situated yourself comfortably, more so than you expected to be, behind him. Your arms wrapped around his middle as you felt your cheeks flush.

"Good?" Kayce asked with a smug look on his face.

"How much are you enjoying this right now?" You laughed.

"More than you know," Kayce chuckled.

The four of you took off as a gently pace into the pastures. It was a warm spring day as Kayce led you all up through the hills and valleys. About an hour later you came upon a river and decided lunch would be nice here.

While you grabbed the baskets, Kayce took care of the horses while you made the kids spread out the blankets. You started to lay out the food you had made early this morning when you first got to the ranch with Y/D/N.

"Mommy, can we go into the river?" Y/D/N asked.

"Just knee high," You looked over at her. "Put your socks in your boots so you don't loose them."

When Kayce knelt down next to you, Tate and Y/D/N were already splashing some in the river. You knew the water probably felt good on their toes. You watched Kayce lay down, propping himself up on his elbow next to where you were sitting.
