Something along that line.

Part Two – Two Months Later

You knocked on the door to Kayce's cabin twice and waited. Your overnight bag, fishing rod, tackle box, and canteen sat on the porch next to you. You heard footsteps pounding up to the door before it was thrown open, revealing a happy looking Tate.

"Y/N!" Tate cheered. "Today's the day!"

"Hey buddy," You smiled as the kid launched himself into you, your arms quick to wrap around him.

You giggled as he wiggled out of your grasp and back inside, yelling for his dad to hurry up. You stepped in and glanced around. Tate was talking nonstop about everything he wanted to do when Kayce walked out of the bedroom, pulling a flannel on over his white t-shirt.

"Tate," Kayce sighed. "Leave some for when we get there, okay?"

You giggled as Tate rolled his eyes. You watched him grab his bag and state it was time to go, racing past you and out the front door. You looked back over at Kayce who was smiling as he walked up to you.

"Hi," He held open his arms as you stepped into them, your own arms wrapping around his middle as you hugged him.

Your hugs with Kayce continued to get longer and longer each time they occurred but you weren't complaining. He was comfortable and felt safe and warm, why would you not want to be in them?

Over the last two months you had grown fond of the youngest Dutton siblings and heir to the Yellowstone Ranch. Kayce was quiet, but enduring. He enjoyed the simple things in life and even more, enjoyed sharing them with you. You lost count how many horseback rides you had taken with him and Tate or how many picnics along the river, or movies up at the main house. While everyone around you probably thought there was something romantic going on, Kayce had yet to make any sort of move.

And that was okay with you, to take your time. You and Kayce were introduced in a very serious way, the scars still visible...both physical and emotional.

"How are you?" You asked as you finally pulled away.

"Not as hyped up as my son," Kayce laughed. "But excited about this trip."

"Me too," You smiled. "I can't wait to show you my hometown."

"Did you bring your stuff?" Kayce asked, reaching down to pick up a few more bags.

"Yeah, they're out front," You pointed over your shoulder.

You pushed down all your feelings when Kayce touched the small of your back, guiding you out the front door. The ride up north was almost two hours, the three of you enjoying each other's company. You knew when the road began to curve stronger, you were getting closer. Being higher in the mountains meant more trees and wildflowers too.

"You can turn here," You pointed out to Kayce.

He followed your instructions until he pulled up in front of a friend of yours' cabin. You had asked if it was okay to stay there this weekend, seeing as you didn't have any family left in the area. The cabin was small, two bedrooms, but perfect for a two-day getaway.

After getting all your things inside, it was getting pretty late. Your plan was to get up early and fish for most, if not all, of Saturday. Kayce was currently trying to get Tate to sleep in one of the bedrooms while you looked over a map on the kitchen table. While you had grown up here, it had been a while since you were up in the park and there had been new trails built. You looked up when Kayce quietly shut the door.
