Request - Would it be possible to have the same chapter but from Kayce's POV?? I would like to have his insight into getting the call, the search and ride over to find her, then finding her etc ... x
Author's Note - I very rarely do Kayce POV and for good reason. I find it challenging because Kayce is an established character, one that everyone knows and has opinions on. I don't ever want to alter someone's love of a character because of how I interpret or think they would act/be. But this request intrigued me and I trust the requester :) so here it is!
"Hey, obviously I'm not answering my phone...leave me a message and I..."
Kayce hung up his phone, deep frown lines appearing on his face as he looked out from the porch at the main house. John walked out to join him.
"Nothing?" John asked.
"It's not like her," Kayce turned and looked at his father. "She'd have called by now."
"She could have stopped somewhere on the way back," John said, but his face told Kayce he believed what his son was saying.
"She still would have called," Kayce looked down at his phone.
They both stood there for a few minutes. Kayce's mind was reeling with every worst-case scenario that could have happened to you. Flashes of car accidents flashed before his eyes, you on the side of the road screaming for help, you being taken in the parking lot...
Kayce's head whipped back around to John.
"What?" John asked.
"We were only worried about Tate again," Kayce whispered before typing on his phone.
"Tate's inside," John stepped over to Kayce.
"I know," Kayce put the phone to his ear. "Craig...get me a search on Y/N's cell phone...ping it for me and send me the address...do it now!"
"Kayce!" John called as Kayce started to run to his truck.
"They took her," Kayce said as he opened his back seat.
He grabbed a bullet proof vest and slipped it on as John came up next to him. Kayce threw his cowboy hat into the backseat and grabbed a ballcap instead.
"Let me get my gun," John started back to the house.
"No," Kayce snapped, shutting the truck door. "It's you they want anyway...and I'll be damned if they get anything they want after taking her."
"I'll call Beth and tell her to get back here too," John sighed while Kayce got into the driver's seat. "Kayce?"
"What?" Kayce's eyes were haunted looking now.
"Bring her back," John stared at his son.
Kayce only nodded, shutting his door, and gunning the truck forward. John watched the taillights disappear down the road.
Kayce flew past the ranch entrance, his grip on the wheel turning his knuckles white as he maneuvered his truck down the roads he'd driven his whole life. A ding on his phone made him look down. Craig had sent him coordinates for where your phone was apparently at. It was about ten miles from the feed lot, the opposite direction of the ranch, in an old trailer park Kayce would never allow you to go to.
Kayce picked up his phone and tried calling you again though. He needed some type of hope to hold onto that you weren't taken, that you were actually just find and maybe had stopped to talk to a friend.
"C'mon baby," Kayce whispered into the phone as it rang. "Pick up the phone..."
When your voicemail started again Kayce threw the phone into the passenger's seat.
