Request - Reader has one daughter from a previous relationship and she's scared to have her meet Kayce. Kayce points out that she's met Tate and his family.

You opened the door to a flustered looking Kayce. Tonight, was supposed to be a date night for you both, but he was almost two hours late. There had been an emergency a few counties over and skipping that would not be what the people of Montana needed from their Livestock Commissioner. But Kayce had called you and told you, so instead of the more expensive Italian place in town...he was taking you to a local diner off the highway.

Since you got to wear boots and jeans instead of a dress, you weren't complaining too much as you smiled at him. His wild caramel eyes calmed down as you stepped back to let him into your small cabin on the outskirts of town.

"Let me just get my coat," You smiled.

"I'm sorry," Kayce held your waist as he pressed a kiss to your cheek, walking inside.

"Don't be," You pulled on your coat. "Everything go okay?"

"I've gotta go back tomorrow," Kayce glanced at the small table in the entryway. "But it should be fine."

"Good," You paused and saw him staring at a picture of you and your daughter.

She was four and a handful, but she was the love of your life. She had your hair color and bright, clear eyes with a small number of freckles across her nose if you looked hard enough.

"Am I ever gonna get to meet her?" Kayce raised an eyebrow back at you.

"You know how protective I am," You sighed, pulling your hair from behind your coat.

"We've been dating for almost a month," Kayce argued.

"We've been on six dates in the last thirty-two days," You laughed. "With your job and mine, that's not a lot of hours logged."

"Do you not want her to know me?" Kayce asked.

"No, that's not it," You shook your head. "Kayce, you're a good man and you've been nothing but kind and sweet to me."

"Then what is it?" Kayce tilted his head at you in question.

"I just..." You sighed. "Look, she's got a really bad relationship with her father and the last guy I tried to date didn't end well so she's also got that memory."

"And you think I'd be just like them?" Kayce asked.

"No, I don't think you'll be like them at all," You stepped closer to him in the small entry. "My momma bear just kicks in regardless of who I'm introducing her to."

"You've met Tate," Kayce pointed out.

This was true, you had met Kayce's son a few weeks ago. You were meting Kayce for lunch, and he hadn't been able to drop Tate off with his mother. So, when you showed up, there was Tate.

The eight-year-old was adorable and even though you've fought Kayce on meeting your daughter, all you could think about during the lunch was Tate and your daughter meeting each other.

"I have," You realized this wasn't fair to Kayce.

"Look, Y/N," Kayce leaned his shoulders back so he could look you in your eyes. "I want this...I want this to work out with you, but I know that means it's gotta work out with your daughter...how am I supposed to win her over for you if you won't let me meet her too?"

You smiled at Kayce, your heart warming at his words.

"You can't hurt her," You whispered and saw Kayce's eyes soften. "She's had too many men break her trust...you can't hurt her."

"I won't hurt her," Kayce shook his head. "I can't promise I won't fuck up at something, but I'll never intentionally hurt her...or you for that matter."

You eyed him for a moment.

"Okay," You nodded. "We could swing by my sister's on the way. She's staying with her tonight."

"You sure?" Kayce asked, but you saw the spark in his eyes.

"Sure," You opened the front door again. "But quickly because I'm starving and it's almost her bedtime."

You called your sister on the way there and when Kayce pulled into the drive, she was sitting on the front porch with your daughter who was already in her pajamas.

"Mommy!" She cried and ran up to you.

You scooped her up into your arms and pressed kisses to her cheek. Her little arms clung around your neck as you met Kayce at the front of his truck. You saw him remove his hat as he smiled at the two of you.

"Hey baby," You whispered to your daughter. "I want you to meet a friend of mine."

Kayce smiled.

"Y/D/N...this is Kayce," You stood close to Kayce, but let your daughter look up at him from your arms.

"Hey Y/D/N...it's nice to meet you," Kayce nodded.

"Are you a cowboy?" Your daughter asked, making Kayce chuckle.

"I guess I am," He smiled at you. "Do you like cowboys?"

"Mommy does," Your daughter eyed you.

"Thanks for that," You pinched her side, making her giggle.

"You know Y/D/N...I've got a son a little older than you," Kayce said. "His name is Tate...maybe we could all have lunch sometime?"

"Could we Mommy?" Your daughter asked.

"I think we could arrange something," You nodded. "You know, Kayce here has horses too."

"Horses?" Your daughter was intrigued now.

"Yeah," Kayce nodded. "A whole barn full of 'em."

"I love horses," Your daughter smiled.

"Well, then maybe we can all go riding together?" Kayce reached his hand up and rubbed your back soothingly.

"Please Mommy?" Your daughter begged.

"We'll make a date of it," You smiled. "Now, it's your bedtime...please mind your aunt and I'll see you in the morning, okay?"

"Love you," Your daughter hugged you tightly.

"Love you, baby," You kissed her head before setting her down. "Can you say goodnight to Kayce?"

Your daughter looked up at Kayce.

"Goodnight, Kayce," She stepped over and hugged his leg and you felt your heart burst.

"Night darlin'," Kayce rubbed her back before she took off back to the porch and your sister.

You waved to your sister before you and Kayce got back into his truck and headed to the diner.

"Thank you for that," Kayce said as he drove.

You reached over and held his arm over the console.

"Thank you," You smiled. "We don't have to go riding if that would be too much trouble for your wranglers."

"You kidding?" Kayce glanced at you. "I've been trying to get you on a horse for weeks now."

"Don't remind me," You rolled your eyes.

"Well, Y/D/N can ride with Tate, and you can be with me," Kayce smirked, pulling into a parking spot.

"I feel like you just want an excuse to be close to me," You giggled, getting out of the truck.

Kayce met you around the front and wrapped his arm around your shoulders.

"What's wrong with that?" He asked you.

"Noting," You pressed a kiss to his cheek as you both walked up to the diner. "Nothing at all, cowboy."
