Request - Reader is 32 weeks pregnant and is an automotive mechanic, and while normally she is extra safe, one night she was working late, and she slips and falls causing the baby to go into a shock and forcing her into labor - with Kayce's kid.
It was getting close to nine now and you knew if you didn't wrap up soon Kayce would come walking through that door to take you home. Even though you had texted him multiple times that day to tell him you were staying late, and that it was okay, he seemed to be calling every hour to double check...which has made you stay even longer than anticipated. You were the last one there, your boss not too happy about leaving you alone but you promised too only be a little while longer.
It could also be your 32-week bump making you a little slower than normal too. Glancing down from where you were leaning against, ironically, one of the Yellowstone ranch's trucks your bump was on full display under your overalls. Kayce said you looked cute, with your hair in pigtails and one of his long-sleeved shirts but you felt like you were a walking walrus this last week or so. Monica had told you she was all tummy too when she had Tate so maybe you were also having a boy?
You finished up under the hood and shut it, grabbing your towel, and wiping away the grease on your fingers even though you knew it was only smudging it around. What you forgot about was the cart under your feet, left there just in case you may need it. You stepped onto the side of it, and it rolled out quickly from you, making your legs pull apart and ultimately land on your side. A pain ripped through your spin, and you groaned outwardly, your hands coming down to your bump.
You lay there for a few minutes, trying to breath normally but the side pain being almost too much. Thinking sitting up might help you tried to move, but the pain got worse, your core feeling like it may fall out, the nerves buzzing. You moved your hands to under your bump, holding onto the top of your thighs while you started to sweat.
"Okay," You breathed out. "Just breathe..."
After another few minutes the pain seemed to lessen slightly. You decided to try and move again but as soon as you crunched up the pain worsened, shooting through you, and making you clench your teeth and fists. You told yourself to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth, counting the seconds now between the pain. Something in your mind told you to start counting and soon you realized why...a few moments later, almost like clock worth another pain waved over you.
"Oh no," You whispered.
There was a buzzing from your front pocket of your overalls, and you reached up with a shaky hand to pull out your phone, Kayce's name showing across the screen. You quickly answered it and set the phone next to your head.
"Hey Y/N," Kayce voice came through. "I know you said you were almost done but I thought I'd offer again to come get,"
"Kace..." You groaned out.
"Baby?" Kayce's tone changed. "Baby, what's wrong?
"T-The...baby," You clenched. "I fell...and I think..."
"I'm on my way," Kayce was running you could tell, probably to his truck. "Where are you?"
"On the floor," You breathed. "Kayce, it hurts so bad."
"I need you to breath, baby," Kayce leveled out his tone. "Remember what the doctor told you...in and out...in and out."
You could hear him getting into his truck and starting it, the engine revving loudly. It should only take him about thirty minutes to get to you but that's driving normal speed. Knowing Kayce, he'd make it in ten.
"Let me call your doctor," Kayce spoke. "Tell him to meet me there."
"O-Okay," You sighed.
"I'll be there soon, baby," Kayce hung up and you were back to only hearing your own breathing.
A little while later you hear tires screeching outside the garage and knew Kayce was here. You hadn't moved, staying partially on your side, and holding your bump. While the pain kept you really from moving you were also scared if you moved you might have to start pushing.
"Baby!"
Kayce was by you instantly and you suddenly felt a calmness that seemed to be missing throughout all of this. He was able to pull you up, even though you winced and cried out, so you were laying back against his chest.
"Dr. Jordan is on his way," Kayce spoke calmly into your ear. "Where does it hurt?"
"Everywhere," You cried out, now realizing you weren't going to have much help from modern medicine for this. Not that women haven't been doing this for centuries on their own, you were looking forward to not feeling like you were being split open if you could help it.
Kayce reached down and placed his hands under yours, under your stomach, and lifted slightly. Some of the pressure released from on top of you and you instantly felt as though you could breathe in better. You sighed, your head rolling back onto Kayce's shoulder.
"Thanks," You breathed out.
"M'right here," Kayce murmured into your ear.
About fifteen minutes later Dr. Jordan and one of his nurses came through the garage doors. An ambulance followed them creating a light show around the entrance into the shop. What a sight you and Kayce must have been to anyone passing by.
Everything happened very quickly after that. They brought all their supplies, and had you set up as best they could with where you were at. Twenty minutes later you were pushing and ten minutes after that you heard the cries of your new little boy.
"Okay, Mrs. Dutton," Dr. Jordan smiled. "Here he is."
You cradled your boy in your arms, Kayce's arms around both of you and looked down. He was perfect, tiny nose, round face, and little hands grasping at your pinky finger. You were exhausted, but everything else disappeared around you except for the two men in your life. Kayce pressed a kiss to the side of your head as he looked down over your shoulder.
"He's perfect, babe," Kayce's voice was shaky, making you turn slightly towards him.
"Look what we made," You cried, smiling so big as you and Kayce shared a sweet kiss.
"Okay Duttons," Dr. Jordan laughed. "How about we get all three of you in that ambulance and to the hospital to make sure everything is okay?"
A stretcher was brought over for what you only assumed was for you. About two hours later you were laying in a hospital bed watching Kayce hold your son in his arms as he stood near the window. Vitals for you and the baby had been checked and everyone was healthy, even at almost three weeks before your due date.
Your sleepy eyes took in Kayce whispering to your son and you wondered what he was saying. Kayce's eyes looked up and over to you before he smirked at you.
"What are you saying?" You whispered.
"Father-son stuff," Kayce laughed. "Don't worry."
"That's all I'm gonna do with you two," You giggle. Kayce walked back over to your bed and sat down next to you, letting you lean against his shoulder.
"We still need to name him," Kayce mentioned.
"Yeah," You nodded. "I thought we had a few more weeks to make that decision."
"What do you think now?" Kayce looked at you.
"I still like John Lee Dutton," Your eyes found Kayce's. "Both our fathers are John and then after your brother."
"You sure?" Kayce watched you closely.
"I wouldn't say it unless I meant it," You smiled, leaning in and kissing Kayce's lips.
"Thank you," Kayce whispered, looking back down at little John.
