Request: What if reader and Kayce are dating. Getting ready for a party and she surprises him with a new cowboy hat. Feel free to adjust and change how you want can't wait.

"Baby, we have to go," Kayce called from the other room.

"It's not my fault you made me get ready here and not at my apartment," You called back, bringing your last earring up to hook into your ear.

There was some County event being held tonight and as the girlfriend of the Livestock Commissioner, you wanted to make Kayce proud. While you knew Kayce would tell you he didn't care what you wore, you also knew he liked you dressed up. It rarely happened, so you purposely bought a new dress and heels for this event.

Something else had caught your eye while you were shopping last weekend in town. While walking out of the dress store you passed a workwear and leather shop on the corner of the town street. You could see steam coming from the side window, so it was already curious to you what was in there.

After putting your dress and shoes in your car you went back up and walked in. After meeting the owner behind the counter, you saw he was making a new cowboy hat for someone. You stood there for a while and watched him, learning he was originally from Wyoming and had been making goods just like his father.

"Sure I can't make you one?" The man asked.

"I already have four," You giggled. "I don't need a new one for a while."

"No one special in your life who needs one?" He asked.

That made you think straight away of Kayce...and he desperately needed a new hat. His current one was so faded you weren't sure you could call it 'black' anymore. It had also frayed on one side and the leather strap around it was about ready to peel off.

"Actually," You smiled at the man. "I do have someone special who needs one, like really needs one."

"Alright, we'll start with the easiest question, what color?" The man held up his hand behind him to the rows of hats waiting to be picked.

"Black," You immediately said. "He looks best in black."

"He?" The owner chuckled. "Do you have yourself a cowboy, ma'am?"

The owner pulled down a hat and kicked the pedal of the steam machine to start blowing again. You watched him work the hat in a circular motion though the steam.

"I do actually," You smiled.

"He a good man?" The owner was running his thumbs along the top portion of the hat.

"He is," You sighed, wishing Kayce was with you right now.

"Lean forward," The man held up the hat.

"Oh, we don't have the same size head," You said with a giggle.

Anytime you tried to wear one of Kayce's ballcaps it always was loose on you.

"I just need to make sure it's even on both sides," The man chuckled, placing the hat on your head.

You felt him adjust a few spots but then he pulled it off and ran it through the steam again. IT was such as art, you kept staring.

"Do you want anything on it?" The owner asked. "Leather strap or feather?"

"Kace ain't really a feather guy," You giggled. "But I'd like a strap, black leather if you have it."

"Yes ma'am," Nodded the owner. "Do you want any branding on it?"

"Branding?" You asked.

"Some folks are branding initials underneath or on the sides," The man cut a strip of thin black leather and looped it around the hat.

"I don't think he's an initial guy either," You smirked.

"What about your initials on it?" The guy looked up at you.

"My initials? You asked.

"What's your first name?" The guy went over to a barrel with what looked like a bunch of sticks coming out of it.

"Y/N," You said as you watched him.

He pulled out a stick with a tiny little brand with the letter of your first name. He walked back over to you and flipped the hat upside down. The letter wasn't bigger than an inch long as he held it up on the inside of the hat, close to the opening for the head.

"This might be nice," The owner looked at you over his glasses. "Simple, but a sweet gesture."

"It is sort of sweet," You tilted your head.

"It'd remind him of you whenever he saw it," The guy leaned back up.

"I'd like to be with him when he's working," You mumbled and then looked up with a decision. "He's in law enforcement...let's do it."

"Then it's on the house," The guy nodded. "Tell your hubby thank you for keeping us safe."

"Boyfriend," You corrected him with a smile. "But I will."

A few minutes later and the hat was down, a tiny little initial branded as a reminder to Kayce about who he needed to come home to. It was perfect in your eyes as the man boxed it up for you.

"Babe?" Kayce's voice broke your thoughts.

You looked in the mirror at Kayce who was leaning against the bedroom door dressed in all black. He couldn't be dressed any more perfect for your gift.

"I got you something," You ignored him and walked over to his bed where you had placed the box.

"A gift?" Kayce watched you. "I wondered what was in the box."

You held the bottom so Kayce could open the lids. Your eyes watched his widen as he saw it was a hat. Kayce gently took it out and held it in his hands, running his thumb over the smooth brim and then the leather strip.

"You got this for me?" Kayce asked you.

"Mmhmm," You nodded your head. "I love your old one and you can still wear that when you're working here. But maybe this can be for when you're on the job, representing Montana?"

"I love it, baby," Kayce then turned it over and you saw his eyes catch the tiny brand.

"I-I just thought I could be with you when you're going after the bad guys," You got nervous.

Kayce looked back at you. He slowly placed the hat on his head, it fitting perfectly.

"What do you think?" He asked.

"Looks good," You smiled.

Kayce wrapped his hands around your hips and pulled you closer, tossing the box back on the bed behind you.

"Thank you," Kayce smiled at you. "I love it."

"I love you," You didn't have to get on your toes to kiss him in your heels.

You tilted your head so you wouldn't hit his new hat as Kayce's lips formed to yours in the sweet kiss. When you pulled back you reached up to gently wiggle the hat on his head.

"We're late," You reminded him.

"They'll be fine," Kayce mumbled as he leaned back in for another kiss.
