Request - Reader and Kayce like each other but don't know how to act on their feelings so when reader gets into a fight and Kayce tells her she don't have to fight that's why I'm here or something like and he defends her.
You knew you had messed up.
When the nurse walked back into the exam room, she didn't have any of the paperwork she said she would, which you needed to fill out to be discharged. You were curious as to how you would sign things seeing as how your fingers on your right hand were bounded by two splits. You have broken your pinky and ring fingers...by punching Ryan in the face earlier.
You all had been at a bar, blowing off steam from working hard the past week. Everyone but you were too drunk, and you had been enjoying yourself until Ryan started to hit on you. At first you pushed him away, trying to not make a scene, but then he grabbed your waist and wouldn't let go. You tried to wiggle free, but he held tighter, and his breath smelled liked beer. Ryan's chin was pretty chiseled, but you had no idea this would happen. It all happened quickly but here you were now at the closest clinic.
"Thought I needed to sign something?" You asked the nurse.
"It's been taken care of," The nurse smiled at you. "You're free to go."
"What do you mean it's taken care of?" You asked, standing up and grabbing your hat.
"Your ride is at the entrance," The nurse responded, still smiling, and holding the door open for you.
You walked out and back down the hallway towards the receptionist's counter before you saw Kayce Dutton standing in the waiting room. Since it was almost one in the morning, he was the only one there in the room. Kayce hadn't been with you all earlier, so you were surprised to see him at all.
"Hey?" You asked, making Kayce look up to where you were standing.
"Hey," He looked tired, like he had been woken up. When he was dressed in jeans, a ballcap, and a hoodie you always thought Kayce looked younger than what he was at thirty-three. "You okay?"
"I will be," You held up your injured hand but knew it was a mistake immediately due to Kayce's frown deepening. "What are you doing here?"
"How did you think you would get back to the ranch?" Kayce asked, though his eyes didn't leave your hand.
"Oh," You felt your cheeks warm. For about a year now you had developed sort of a crush on the youngest Dutton, but you never could tell where he stood. Kayce had been married before and his son was almost ten now, but the divorce was two years ago.
You and Kayce had a nice friendship too, one you would hate to be impacted by someone doing something stupid like admitting feelings. But here he was, your literal savior asking if you were okay, and you felt like you were sixteen again.
"I guess I thought Rip, or someone would come get me," You shrugged.
"He's taking care of Ryan," Kayce grunted, making your heart fall.
You took a step closer to Kayce, making him look up into your eyes now. "Ryan was drunk and being stupid. He didn't mean anything by it."
"I meant more like he was putting all of them to bed back at the bunkhouse," Kayce rolled his eyes. "You don't need to defend your boyfriend."
"He's not my boyfriend," Your eyes narrowed. "I don't fight my boyfriends."
"Well, you don't need to do anything like that from now on," Kayce had his hands in the front pocket of his hoodie.
"What do you mean?" You asked.
"You don't need to fight anyone," He stared at you. "I can do that for you."
