Request - Hi! I have a request if you can do that Tate says he hates Kacey and the readers 2nd baby because he is a little jealous?
You were standing at the kitchen counter, rocking your little baby boy in your arms as you looked over Tate's homework. Math wasn't his strong suit, but he had improved and while your little one cooed away, trying to fall asleep, you saw that Tate got all the questions correct on his take-home quiz.
"These look good to me," You whispered to Tate. "This one is better than your last one, buddy...I can tell you've been working."
"Can we go out to the barn now?" Tate asked, jumping up from the couch. "We're running out of time."
"Let me get this guy to sleep as if your dad will watch him then yes," You smiled, your arms not stopping.
"Come on, Y/N," Tate whined.
"If you keep that up, he'll never fall asleep," You raised an eyebrow at Tate.
Kayce walked into the front door and smiled over at you. He leaned in and kissed your cheek, moving to kiss the forehead of your little boy.
"Hi," Kayce smiled at you.
"Hey...how was work?" You whispered to him.
"Long," Kayce sighed. "Thought you three would be at the barn?"
"Someone got sleepy early," You smiled down at your son.
"Dad let's go to the barn," Tate walked over to Kayce, still not lowering his voice. "Y/N is obviously too busy."
"Tate," You scolded. "Lower your voice, please."
"I live here too!" Tate snapped.
"Hey," Kayce looked at Tate. "What's the deal?"
"Please lower your voices," You sighed and walked away from them.
"Can't you see Y/N is trying to get him to sleep?" Kayce asked Tate.
"She's been trying all afternoon," Tate argued. "We haven't done anything she promised we would do today."
"Well, sometimes that happens with little babies," Kayce sighed. "What's with the attitude?"
"It's not fair," Tate cried. "All you both care about is him!"
You looked back over at Tate shocked.
"Go to your room," Kayce snapped.
"See?" Tate threw his hands up.
"Tate, that's not fair," You whispered.
Tate looked at you as he walked past, his eyes glancing down at the bundle in your arms.
"I hate him," Tate spat as he ran up the stairs.
"Tate Dutton!" Kayce yelled after him.
Kayce moved to walk up the stairs but you stepped in front of him. You were pushing back tears in your eyes as Kayce frowned, looking down at you. He reached out and cupped your cheek.
"Here," You handed Kayce your son. "Let me go talk to him."
"He needs an ass whopping," Kayce grumbled as he adjusted your son in his arms.
"Maybe so," You sighed, walking up the stairs. "But I'm gonna give him one more chance before I send you in."
You walked up and down the hallway to Tate's room. Instead of knocking, you gently opened the door and stuck your head inside. Tate was on his bed, head over his arms crossed.
Taking a breath, you walked in and sat down gently on his bed. Tate took a deep breath and leaned up, still not looking at you.
"I'm sorry, Dad," He whispered. "I-I didn't mean it...but I haven't gotten to hang out with Y/N since the baby's been born and I just got upset."
You felt yourself smile as you placed your hand on Tate's back. He looked around and jump, seeing it was you instead of Kayce.
"Y/N!" Tate sat up next to you.
"Tate..." You nodded.
"I-I'm...sorry," Tate looked upset again.
"Tate," You sighed. "I'm sorry too."
"For what?" He asked.
"For not knowing how to balance taking care of a newborn with also taking care of you," You crossed your legs on the bed. "If it makes you feel better...I have no idea what I'm doing."
"You don't?" Tate asked.
"No idea," You shook your head. "And when I think I do...well then it turns into something like tonight, and I'm reminded that I don't know what I'm doing."
Tate was quiet for a moment with you.
"I think you're doing a good job," He mumbled.
"You do?" You asked, surprised.
"Yeah," Tate looked at you. "You still cooked me mac n cheese the other night, you help me with my homework...this morning you let me flip the pancakes..."
"Then what happened tonight?" You asked him, pushing his hair back.
"I don't know," Tate shrugged. "I saw you holding him and I just...all I wanted was for you and me to go to the barn and hang out... I got..."
"Jealous?" You offered him.
"I guess," Tate blushed.
"Tate," You pulled him into your chest. "It's okay to feel that way. I'm sure your dad and I have a lot to learn about balancing now that we've got two sons. But maybe, instead of saying you hate your baby brother...you tell me that you're feeling this way?"
"I don't hate him," Tate looked up at you.
"I know you don't," You smiled. "That's the only reason I'm in here and your dad ain't."
"Is he mad?" Tate asked.
"Not anymore," Kayce said and you both turned to look at Kayce leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed.
"I'm sorry, Dad," Tate said.
"You've gotta talk to us, buddy," Kayce sighed, pushing off from the door frame. "As Y/N said...we don't know how you're feeling unless you tell us, and we need all the help we can get."
"Okay," Tate nodded.
"Did you get him down?" You asked, reaching out to hold Kayce's arm.
"Yeah, he's down," Kayce glanced out the window. "And you two have about an hour left of sunlight to head down to the barn."
"Seriously?" Tate jumped up with a grin.
"If you hurry," Kayce said and before he finished Tate was already racing down the stairs.
You giggled, standing up and hugging Kayce around his middle. His arms wrapped you into a warm hug and pulled you closer.
"Thank you," You whispered.
"Thank you," Kayce kissed your forehead.
