Request – Can I request the Reader makes the wranglers watch an old cowboy movie she loves and Kayce steps in and just watches her the whole time watching it?

"Can someone tell me again why we're doing this?" Colby asked from his seat on the couch.

"You don't wanna cuddle up?" Teeter teased from right next to him, making the others laugh.

"Because it's raining," You rolled your eyes, pushing the DVD into the machine. "And it's cold...so we're gonna watch some movies. Some real movies."

"Real movies?" Ryan asked from his seat.

"Yes," You leaned back up as the screen changed to the opening credits. "Maybe you lot could learn a thing or two about how cowboys are supposed to be."

Everyone laughed as they settled down in the bunkhouse around the television. It was a cold and rainy day in Montana and after securing the horses and such, the wranglers had piled back into the warmth. Teeter had started her now famous chili so it smelled heavenly inside with the rain hitting the windows.

Before you could sit back down the door opened and Kayce walked inside. Everyone looked over at him s he glanced around the room before taking a seat in one of the remaining chairs. You eyed him, water droplets still hanging onto his hat as he leaned his long legs out in front of him.

"Oh I love this one," Jack said, making your eyes find the screen and smiled.

"It's my favorite," You whisper as an open plains scene appeared on the screen and the bunkhouse went quiet.

Your eyes danced across the screen the whole time during the first part of the film. Even though you knew it by heart, you still enjoyed seeing the old western play out, the rough cowboys, the shooting scenes, and even laughing at how Hollywood portrayed a cattle drive. You paused the film halfway, saying everyone could get a bowl of chili before starting it up again.

While you were in line, you felt Kayce come and stand behind you. Looking over your shoulder you caught his eye and offered him a small smile.

"Do you like the movie?" You asked softly.

"Uh...sure," Kayce looked almost embarrassed.

"What?" You turned around to face him. "If you don't that's okay, won't hurt my feelings."

"No, it's fine," Kayce shook his head, "Guess I just haven't been focusing on the movie."

"What?" You tilted your head to the side. "How come? What're you focusing on besides that?"

You couldn't figure out how Kayce could be looking at anything but the movie. There wasn't anything going on besides that in the bunkhouse. Plus the windows weren't behind the television, so it's not like he could just stare out the window either.

"I was kind of watching you," Kayce stepped forward, making you take a step back and realizing the line had moved,

"W-What?" You stuttered. "Me?"

"Yeah," Kayce's warm eyes looked down at you. "You were really enjoying it and it was hard to not just watch you."

"Oh," You felt your cheeks warm as you took another step back to move up in the line.

"That embarrass you?" Kayce smirked.

"No," But you could tell by Kayce's look he knew you were lying.

You rolled your eyes and turned back around, crossing your arms. Sure, you thought Kayce Dutton was attractive. But he was technically one of your bosses. Rip had made it a point to almost beat any hope of that ever happened out of your mind the moment you stepped onto this ranch a few years ago...but that didn't mean you didn't think about the youngest Dutton.

And now he was admitting to looking at you.

You made yourself a bowl, fully aware Kayce was still watching you from his spot next to you as he made himself one. When you turned to go back to your seat you saw Ryan had taken your old one because Jake had taken Ryan's old seat. So you took the middle spot on the couch by Colby, thinking Teeter would join you.

But when Kayce sat down on the other side of you, you felt your heart skip a beat. He dug into his chili bowl, seeming to think nothing of this nor your exchange only minutes ago. When Teeter walked back over she pushed play and the movie started again. With the food down, she cut the lights out, the screen ever brighter now on everyone's face.

You couldn't enjoy the movie like the first half because the thought of Kayce watching you kept running through your mind. Now that you were next to him, he couldn't see you the same way, so maybe it was okay now?

You leaned forward and put your bowl on the coffee table. When you leaned back you noticed Kayce had placed his arm along the back of the couch, your ponytail brushing the sleeve of his sweatshirt. Your head snapped to look over at Kayce who slowly turned his head to look back. His expression was almost like an 'I dare you to say something' look.

Biting your lip, you settled back into a comfortable position and looked back at the movie. A few minutes later, Colby leaned forward to put his bowl over yours, but it cause him to pass by you, making you lean into Kayce.

When Colby resumed his spot, you couldn't make yourself follow. So you stayed closer to Kayce, your flannel shirt touching his sweatshirt. You looked down and saw how close your legs were, but when your eyes trailed back up Kayce you found his eyes watching yours.

"You two want a room?" Walker barked out a laugh, breaking any sort of comfortable feeling you had been feeling and the whole room looked at you.

"You still want a fucking job?" Kayce snarled back.

"Sorry," Walker held up his hands.

You went to move back into how you had been sitting but Kayce's arm fell from the couch over your shoulders, tugging you even closer now. He was warm and comfortable, and with your favorite movie playing you felt your eyes get a little sleepy.

Sure, there were conversations that needed to be had.

Sure, this was your boss and you knew good and well there'd be hell to pay with Rip in the morning when he found out.

Sure, John Dutton probably didn't want his son to end up with a wrangler if he had a choice.

But none of that really mattered to you as your head dropped into the crook of Kayce's neck as the movie continued to play on.
