Defended By A Cute Upperclassman (Part 1)
One Shot #3
Moana's POV
Today's my first day of high school... like ever. I'm an incoming freshman at the local high school here in Honolulu, which happens to be called Honolulu High School. I originally lived in Montonui for most of my childhood, but then suddenly my dad got an interesting job offer in the city that pays well. Needless to say, he accepted the job offer and we had to move. Montonui is only a short flight away, but I miss it already. Mainly because Gramma Tala is still back there, left with only the village people to keep her company until we visit again.
I'm super nervous about today. I've heard that the juniors and seniors love to mess with the freshman and sophomores in all sorts of ways, especially the freshman. They play pranks, tease us, and even try to hurt us if they're mean enough to do so. I hope nobody pranks, teases, or hurts me. I'm nervous enough as it is and if any of those things were to happen, it'd only make things worse.
I take a deep breath and enter through the massive doors of the front of the high school. I clutch onto my binder for dear life as I make my way through the corridors to get to the gym to receive my class schedule. As I do, guess who I collide into... the school bully. I can tell he's the school bully because he has cruelty written all over his face. As the principal hands my schedule, the bully snatches it out of my hand. "Hey give that back!" He holds it high over his head with a smirk. "Aw what's wrong? The dopey weirdo freshman girl can't reach. Boo hoo. Why don't do you grow a few inches and stop being so whiny." The principal, who's a middle aged man named Principal Kahale (indicated by the name tag that he's wearing), scowls at the bully and hands me back my schedule with a sincere smile. "I'm sorry for Dan'i's behavior here. He's a senior who thinks he's all that, but in reality, he isn't as tough as he acts. What's your name?" I stutter "Mmm-mmmyyy name is Moana." He extends out a hand to shake, which I shake awkwardly. "Nice to meet you Moana. I'm glad you're here. Honolulu High School is quite nice. It offers a lot of programs that most schools in the area only dream of having." I nod and give a small smile. "It seems nice. I have to get to class, but I'll see you around Prinicpal Kahale." "I'll see you around Moana. If you need anything, don't hesitate by my office."
I glance at my schedule and see that my first class is World History part 2 . I took part 1 one in eighth grade last year and aced it with flying colors so I'm sure I'll do just as well in part 2. I don't mean to brag, but I actually do pretty well in school. I'm always on the honor roll because I happen to be one of the few students who actually applies themselves to their studies. I get A's and B's in all of my classes. I'm hoping to keep that up in high school. I also want to join some clubs too as book club and chorus. Reading and singing are two my favorite things in the world.
As I walk into my first class, that same bully I just had to deal with moments ago is sitting at a desk right in the center of the room surrounded by a group of his pals. I make eye contact with him and instantly regret it as I see that the only open seat is one right in front of him. This is just great. I have to start my day with this jerk and sit in front of him everyday, five days a week for an hour each day. With my luck, he'll probably be in at least one of my other classes as well. The teacher, who's a young, spunky woman named Ms. Kalani comes into the room with a smile on her face. Based on the way she's presenting herself, I can tell that she's really nice. She hands out sheets on the lesson plans for the year. Right as I get handed mine, I feel something into my hair. I go to pull it out, only to get it stuck all over my hand. Anxiety forms within in me as I see that it's bubblegum.
Dan'i calls me all sorts of insulting names, including "dumb bitch and ugly wench." Tears prickle at the corners of my eyes. I refuse to look behind me because I don't want to give that bully the satisfaction of seeing me cry. As I ignore everyone's intense stares in my direction, I heard a loud sound that startles me. I glance out of the corner of my eye and see a very muscular guy wrestling with Dan'i on the floor, basically beating the crap out of him. A part of me is satisfied by this turn of events, though I don't make it obvious as Ms. Kalani pulls Dan'i ad the other boy apart. Ms. Kalani grabs him by the shirt. "The principal's office, NOW." He rolls his eyes and leaves the classroom. She then comes over to my desk. "Are you okay?" "I am now that he's gone." The muscular guy also comes over to my desk. He looks at me in concern. "I'm so sorry about him. He's a horrible human being. We've all had to deal with him and his dumb band of idiots for years. Are you okay though?" I give a small smile. "I will be. Thank you though for what you did, I really appreciate it. " He smiles back. "You're welcome. Can I take you to the bathroom down the hall? I'd like to help you get that gum out of your hair." "You've been so helpful already. I don't want to be a bother." "Nonsense." The guy looks to Ms. Kalani for permission and she gives us the nod of approval, allowing us to go the bathroom.
I look up at the muscular boy who's a foot taller than me. "I never got your name. I feel bad when I thank someone and I don't know their name." "My name is Maui. What's yours?" "My name is Moana." "Moana" he says aloud, mainly to himself. "That's a pretty name for a pretty girl." I look at him in shock. "What did you just say?" He looks at me in an interesting way. "I said that's a pretty name for a pretty girl. Why do you seem so surprised?" I glance down at the ground. "I've never been called that before by anyone other than my parents. It just sounds weird coming from someone else besides them." He uses one arm to pull me in for a hug and the other to begin getting the gum out of my hair. "Well you are and I will remind you everyday if I have to."
"Why are you being so nice to me? Everyone else is ignoring me so far. You can do the same. I'm used to being ignored by most people." "Well I'm not most people. The human race as a whole is pretty crappy and I try rise above that. Plus, you seem like a sweet and absolutely lovely girl. It'd be an honor to defend you again as well as being allowed to get to know you... if that's okay with you." As he takes the last strand of gum out of my hair, I grin like a maniac. "I'd like that." He grins back. "Me too. Before we go back to class, there's one thing I'd like to do." "You may do it." He bends down and kisses me on the cheek.
As we head to class, I can't help but realize that Maui's really cute. I'm really excited to get to know him. Hopefully we'll have more classes together. That'd be super awesome!
Hoped that you guys liked this one shot! Sorry it takes me a bit longer to update with imagines than it does chapters of a general fanfic. One shots involve a slightly deeper thought process as most don't feed into one another like normal chapters of fanfics do. -Mary
