How To Save A Life (Part 2)
One Shot #37 (Cont.)
Moana's POV
I can't help but smile at Maui's location choice. The pond is small, but private and lovely. He gets out of the car and comes around to my side to open the door for me. I blush at his actions but thank him. I go to sit down beside the pond. A moment later, he joins me. "Moana... why did you save me? I deserved to die." I can feel my heart strings pulling at me. This beautiful man before me thinks he's worthless. I'll do everything I can to make him see otherwise. "Maui, why do you feel that way?" He sighs. "I don't want to burden you with my stupid sob story." "You're not burdening me. I want to talk to you. That's why I hoped into your car and drove us here."
"Fine... I'll tell you, but don't say I didn't warn you that it's a downer. I've had a lot of problems in my personal life and career for awhile, but this past week has been the worst week of my life. I blew my biggest acting audition yet for the upcoming Avengers movie, I got dumped by my long term girlfriend Sally because I wasn't good enough for her, and I had a huge fight with my parents which was so bad I don't know if I'll even be able to make amends when the tension dies down. I also have no friends out here in the city of angels and dreams. My former friends started treating me different once I established a new home here. Therefore, I have no talent and no worth on this planet. My life is a waste."
Tears cloud my vision. I barely know Maui yet I feel for him on such a deep level, especially in struggling in my career. I came out here last year to attempt to be a singer and so far I've had very little luck. My biggest gig was an open mic set at the Starbucks on Hollywood Blvd. In other words, I've pretty much gotten nowhere. "Maui, I know it's hard to believe that people sincerely know how you feel, but I do, especially career wise. My story is pretty similar to yours actually. This industry is so tough to work in, but once you find the right gig, it's so worth it. You establish amazing connections with people in the same field. Please don't give up Maui. I can tell you're young and still have plenty of time left to make it. Life is too precious to end on a whim."
Maui looks absolutely stunned by my words. He opens his mouth to speak but nothing comes out. I move closer to him and pull him in for a hug. "You don't have to say anything. Just listen, I will be here for you. You're officially a part of my life." He hugs me back before releasing me. "You really mean that?" A smile tugs at my mouth. "I do." "Thank you Moana." I shrug. "What can I say except you're welcome." Maui cracks a smile. "I feel like that's supposed to be my line." I lean my head on his shoulder and together we stare off into the horizon, waiting for the universe to point us in the proper path.
