Going Green (Part 4)
One Shot #33 (Cont.)
Moana's POV
A week later...
I've been sitting in a study room thumbing through news articles, medical cases, etc trying to find something relating to Maui's... situation. I'm about to shut the computer off and close my books to take a much needed break when a random add of sorts pops up and catches my eye. It's about S.H.I.E.L.D. I squeal a little bit. I'm massive fangirl over the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and the Avengers. As I scan it eagerly, I notice they're looking to study people with special abilities in order to help them manage their abilities and/or find a cure. I print out the ad and run down the hall to the lab.
"Sir, I have something for you." He chuckles at me. "Woah easy there Moana, what'd you think? I tuck a strand of hair behind my hair and blush like crazy. I've always thought Maui was super attractive, but kept it to myself because he's my boss. I giggle. "Sorry Sir." Maui puts a hand on my shoulder. "Stop calling me sir. Just call me Maui please. Sir makes me feel old. I'm only thirty. You make me sound ancient. In case you forgot, I'm only nine years older than you." I smile. "I'm sorry Maui. I promise not to call you sir anymore." He smiles back and motions for the flyer in my hand. "What do you have there Moana?" I hand him the flyer. "Why only your best chance at finding a cure to your problem."
Maui studies the flyer and begins to frown. "I know you mean well Moana, but S.H.I.E.L.D is about using people for their abilities rather than fixing them. If I showed up asking them to cure me, they'd probably try to make me an Avenger." "I respect you Maui so I'm not going to force you into going there, but at least promise me you'll think about it." He sighs but nods, making me feel slightly better about my risky actions. "I promise to think about it. I'll give you an answer by the end of the week." "Thank you Maui. Anyways, I'll get out of your hair and back to studying. If I see anything else, I'll come back and run it by you." I turn to leave, but Maui reaches out to stop me. "No, please don't leave. I want you to stay for a bit. I could use the company."
I can hear the loneliness in his voice. "Are you okay Maui?" Maui puts on a slightly forced smile, probably not to worry me. "I'm fine Moana. You deserve a break for a little while. Plus, I want to know more about you." I look down shyly. "I'm a pretty boring girl. There isn't much to tell." He cups my face gently, forcing me to look right at him. "I know want to know everything." Feeling a little more confident of his interest in me, I babble on about every detail about myself I can think of including the silly things like my favorite movie being The Notebook and my favorite place to be is near the ocean. Maui in return tells me a few things about himself like where he grew up and his favorite childhood memories. He's normally so quiet so it's nice hearing him speak for a change.
Maui and I have been talking for so long that two hours have passed. I usually only take half hour breaks. I think Maui notices that too. "I won't keep you any longer Moana. I'll let you get back to work." I grab a hold of his hands and take them in mine. "I really enjoyed this Maui. We should do this again sometime." I look up at him and notice him... blushing. "I really enjoyed this too and absolutely." I leave the lab with the goofiest smile on my face.
