A Broken Man (Part 13)

One Shot #27 (Cont.)

Maui's POV

Two weeks later...

I was finally released from the dreaded hospital yesterday. It feels good to be home, but at the same time, I'm sad to be home. All this mansion is going to do is remind me that my career is over and that there are so many things I can't do anymore. For example, I won't even be able to run on a treadmill anymore. That's pretty pathetic considering I'm only twenty five years old. Moana's in school during the week so she only works four hours a day in the evenings, but she works full day shifts on the weekends. Speaking of Moana, I'm truly surprised that her father hasn't bothered to notice her disappearance yet. Though, I'm thankful. If he tries to come after her, I'll ring my hands around his neck. They won't do much, but it's better than nothing. I could deck him in the face if I really tried.

It's evening right now. My at home nurse Sheila is giving me some meds before supper, which Moana happens to be making. I can smell the food all the way up in my room. It smells really good. I tell Sheila to hurry up. She rolls her eyes at me, but does as I say. I have to give Sheila some credit. She's the only nurse I haven't managed to scare off yet. When it comes to my remarks, she couldn't care less. In other words, she has balls. It's honorable, considering that she's up in age. If I were to pinpoint her age, I'd say she's at least fifty.

Ten minutes later...

Sheila is finally finished pumping a series of medication into my system so I'm free to eat. Sadly though, Moana may have to help me. That's the mortifying part. Being a twenty five year old man who can't feed himself. I never thought I'd be an infant again, but I seem to be functioning at the level of one. My mansion is so fancy that I happen to have an elevator in it so luckily I can get up and downstairs without too much of a problem. Sheila helps me into my wheelchair, onto the elevator, and down to the kitchen. When I get there, my breath escapes me and I'm speechless once again. Moana's wearing this short, but really sexy black dress with only an apron to cover certain parts of her body. Sheila notices me staring and nudges me playfully.

Sheila leans down to my shoulder. "You think I don't notice the way you look at her. I can tell you like her." I play it cool. "Pshhh no, I don't like her like that. Moana's just my maid and friend. That's all." Sheila smirks. "Okay Maui, you keep telling yourself that. In the meantime, wipe that drool away from your mouth. You look silly." I sheepishly wipe the drool on my chin away. Moana smiles at me. "Hey Maui. I made dinner. Sheila you're more than welcome to stay too." Sheila smiles back at her. "I don't want to intrude. Besides, it's nearly the end of my shift anyway. Though if it's not too much, I'll take some of that lasagna to go. It looks great." Moana lights up in that adorable way. "Sure." I watch her take some lasagna, put it in a plate, wrap it, and hand to Sheila. "Thank you Moana. Have a good night. You too Maui." I give her a nod as she goes back upstairs to grab her things before leaving.

When Sheila's gone, I feel myself relaxing around Moana more. I begin to dig into the lasagna Moana set out for me. As I take my first bite with her help, I'm met with instant satisfaction. "Moana, this is really good. You never told me you were such a good cook." She laughs. "I wanted you to find out on your own. After all, it's fun to have a few surprises. If I told you everything about me right away, there wouldn't be much else to learn." She helps me finish the rest of mine meanwhile eating hers. When we're done, she asks me if I want dessert, which I politely decline due to how full I am.

My meds begin to kick in and make me drowsy. I yawn. Moana looks at me in concern. "Maui, let me get you in bed. You look exhausted." I yawn again. "I promise I'll go to bed soon. I just have a few things to do first." "Like what?" "I have to brush my teeth, floss, and fill out some forms. After that, fell free to take me as you please." Moana's eyes bug out of her head meanwhile I put my hands over my mouth and groan. "I realize how that sounded Moana. I'm sorry." Despite my stupid, stupid remark, Moana still smiles at me. "It's fine Maui. We all slip up with our words from time to time."

Moana puts me at ease. She helps me due the three things I need to get done before bed and helps me into bed. "Good night Maui. I'll be right in my room across the hall if you need anything." She gets up and I grab her arm lightly, but strongly enough to stop her. "No stay, please." "Are you sure Maui?" "Positive. I want you to sit with me until I fall asleep." Moana gently squeezes my hand. "If that's what you want, then that's what shall happen." She pulls up a chair and continues to hold my hand until I nod off to sleep and even for a bit afterwards.
