The History Teacher And His Student (Part 9)

One Shot #23 (Cont.)

Maui's POV

Three days later... Friday night...

I hate Friday nights sometimes for the sole reason that I rarely ever have plans to go out and live up the weekend like normal people do. I often resort to binge watching shows on Netflix with alcohol in hand, which isn't always the best mix. I miss Moana. I haven't seen her since class this morning. I think I'll text her and see if she's free. I pick up my phone, type in my password, and text her the following: "Hey love, are you busy?" A couple minutes go by before I get a response. "No not at all Maui. Why?" I smile instantly. The rest of the conversation goes like this:

Me: "Would you maybe want to come over to my place for dinner?"

Moana: "Sure, but I have to tell my parents that I'm going to Kayla's. I'll be right back."

Me: Okay

Five minutes later...

Moana: My parents said yes. Though, I'll need you to pick me up further down the street so my parents don't catch us. Is that okay?"

Me: "That's fine love. I'll be there in half an hour."

Moana: See you then <3

Me: <3

Half an hour later...

I park my car at a nearby house and Moana comes dashing down the sidewalk. "I'm sorry if I kept you waiting Maui. I just had to make sure my parents didn't follow me." I smile. "It's okay. I actually just got here a minute ago. You can relax now." Moana takes a deep breath before giving me a more relaxed smile. I open the car door for her and she giggles. "You're such a gentleman Maui." I laugh. "I try." I close her door once she gets in and get in on the driver's side. I then pull out of the parking space I created and drive us to my apartment, which is five minutes away.

Five minutes later...

We pull into the parking lot of my apartment complex. I happen to be the youngest tenant here. Half of my building consists of doctors, another quarter of it consists of elderly people, and other quarter consists of people between the ages of twenty six and fifty. Thankfully, no other teachers from the high school live in my apartment complex. Moana marvels at the beauty of the complex. "Maui, you're so lucky to live in a place like this. It's beautiful." I smile fondly down at her. "Wait until you see the inside. I swear once you see it, you'll never want to leave." She blushes. "I haven't even seen it yet and I know I don't ever want to leave." Her simple but sweet compliment causes me to blush intensely.

My apartment's on the first floor at the end of the hall, which made me happy when I signed my lease agreement. I hate huge flights of stairs. I only have to go up three little ones to get into the building, but that's nothing compared to tenants on the higher floors. There are five floors in my building. I grab a hold of Moana's hand which she gladly takes. A shiver runs up my spine at the contact of our fingers interlocking. I open the door and she gasps once again. Her gasping is incredibly adorable. Just about everything she does is adorable. "Oh my god Maui, your apartment is the size of a place. It even looks like one. Look at all of the cool stuff you have. I wish I had all these nice things."

A small frown forms on my face. "Now come on Moana, I'm sure your house is nice as well as the things you have." She sighs. "Not really. Our house is two floors, but it's still on the small side and isn't in the bed condition. A lot of repairs have to be made on it and we're always struggling with money. I'd get a job, but I can't until I turn sixteen, which is still four months away. My parents work themselves to a bone all day, five days a week, so on weekends they're almost always asleep. We used to be so happy. I don't know what happened."

Moana sits down on my living room couch and I sit beside her, moving her body gently towards mine. She puts head on my shoulder and I stroke her hair. "You're a strong girl Moana. I can tell. You're also wise beyond your years. I've never heard a fifteen year old talk as intelligently as you do. That's a compliment by the way." She gives me a small smile, but stares at the wall rather than looking at me. It's clear she's embarrassed about what she just said. "I'm sorry Maui. I just get insecure sometimes. I'm also not used to be in a luxurious environment like this." I cup Moana's face gently and get her to look at me. "None of this stuff matters to me. What matters to me is you, your happiness, your health, and your safety."

Moana gazes at me intensely. "You're just so lucky Maui. You have a good paying job, got to go to a good college, have traveled a lot, and have the money to fulfill your desires." I sigh and look down at the ground. "I wasn't always successful Moana. I spent my childhood growing up in the slums. My parents also abandoned me soon after I was born. They took one look at me and decided they didn't want me. Apparently neither did anyone else. I was put into the foster care system, which I stayed in until I was sixteen. Once I turned sixteen, I went to court and pleaded with the judge to allow me to become an emancipated minor. When I told my sob story, it swayed the judge enough to grant me that request. So I spent the last two years of high school working three jobs to support myself financially while balancing my studies and sports. I don't know how I did it all quite frankly. I came home nearly every night and had a mental breakdown."

Tears fall down Moana's face and I wipe them away before speaking again. "I managed to maintain a B average and got a free ride to college, which was mainly do to my sob story and financial crisis. In college, I worked two jobs full time while studying my major, which was Ancient Civilization. I saved up my money and ended up getting some help from my college classmates to get myself this apartment and most of the things in it. So the point to this sob story is that most of my life has been a sob story. I never even had the slightest trace of luxury until recently. I worked all my life for this. Nothing has been handed to me. The few things that were make me feel guilty to this day, but in the end, I'm grateful to have them. I'm even more grateful to have you now."

Moana pulls my face towards her and kisses me. It takes a me a moment to kiss back due to me being surprised by her sudden actions. I kiss her back tenderly, my lips  navigating hers steadily. Her lips are a soft as a flower petal. I love them. Mine are rougher. I think she can sense that because she puts thought into her every kiss. I admire that. It shows just how special she wants this to be. I've only been with one other girl besides Moana, but she doesn't come to Moana. Moana makes me feel emotions that I didn't know I could feel. She's such a breath of fresh air.

We pull apart after a few minutes. I study her face and see a goofy grin and a crimson shade on red plastered on. "This is going to sound geeky and ruin the moment, but that was my first kiss." My heart swells. I'm so glad that I'm the first one to kiss this beautiful girl. The thought of anyone else beating me to it would piss me off for all my days. "I hope I made it memorable Moana." She smiles even wider. "You sure did Maui. Thank you." I wink. "What can I say except you're welcome."
