The History Teacher And His Student (Part 5)

One Shot #23 (Cont.)

Maui's POV

Two days later... Monday morning...

It's 7:10 in the morning and first period starts in ten minutes. A million thoughts are racing through my mind as I take a few last sips of my dear old friend called coffee, which is the source of my caffeine. I've been thinking about Moana like crazy since our short texting conversation on Saturday. It was a simple exchange of words over a homework assignment, yet it felt like so much more. I sound really weird. I should just  duct tape my mouth shut at this point.

Ten minutes later...

The bell rings and everyone comes pouring into my class. They scramble into their seats. Everyone is seated except for Kayla and Moana, who come walking in last, but before the late bell. As Moana walks toward her seat, we make eye contact and my heart skips a beat. She's wearing a shiny gold long dress with sandals, a flower crown on her head, her long hair flowing down in waves on her shoulders, and a gentle touch of makeup. She looks absolutely stunning. Moana catches me staring too long and raises an eyebrow. I try not to blush and quickly look away, diving into today's lesson plan.

"Before we begin today, I'd like everyone to hand in their compare and contrast essays on Aztec Civilization and Mayan Civilization." A few students groan, but every single student in the class passes in an essay, some clearly having more effort put into them than others. I put them on my desk. "Alright, today we'll be learning some additional background on Aztec and Mayan Civilization. This will help you for the quiz we'll be having on Friday." This time the entire class groans and I laugh. "Sorry to burst your bubble everyone, but this isn't elementary school anymore. You'll be having a quiz or test once or twice within a two week period. It'll only get more intense as high school goes along."

Moana stands up and tries to calm the class down, causing a chuckle to escape from me. She looks at me for permission to proceed and I gladly let her. "Guys, it's not that big a deal. We can handle tests and quizzes. After all, we've done them a million times before in elementary and middle school." Suddenly, like magic, everyone nods in agreement and relaxes. I stare at Moana in awe. I knew from the moment she walked into my class that there was something special about her, but now I see that she's also magical. God this girl is going to be the death of me in the most wonderful way.

Moana's POV

Maui's been staring at me for nearly the entire class period, which makes me both extremely happy and really nervous. I know it's wrong for me to think this way, but I love the fact that he's checking me out. I'm not normally a confident girl, but when a guy like him notices me, it gives me a slight boost of self esteem. The bell signaling the end of the first period snaps me out of my thoughts. Everyone else leaves the class except me. I linger for a moment to see if Maui will strike up a conversation with me.

I take my everloving time gathering my books and binders. I feel a hand on my shoulder and smile when I realize that the hand belongs to Maui. "What can I do for you Maui?" His facial expression looks as if he's trying to stare into my soul. "I'm probably going to cross about twenty different lines by saying this, but you look absolutely stunning today." A blush creeps up on me. I look away from Maui and hide my face in my hands. He chuckles. "Aw Moana's blushing." "Hush Maui" I say through my hands.

The late bell rings ruining our moment. I groan and continue to hold my head in my hands. Maui puts a hand on my back, I guess in attempt to calm me down. I get stressed whenever I'm late to anything, especially class. "Relax Moana, I'll write you a late pass." He grabs the pad of passes off his desk, signs one, and hands it to me. "Look Moana, I'm sorry if I creeped you out with my compliment. I know that I could get into trouble for saying something like that to a student, especially one that I think is attractive."

Maui puts a hand over his mouth while his eyes bug out of his head. Meanwhile, I stare at him in shock. He looks away in embarrassment. "Oh my god, Moana, I'm so sorry. I keep saying all of these things that I shouldn't. I wouldn't blame you if you went to your guidance counselor right now and begged her to switch classes." I place a finger up to Maui's lips and silence him. "I think you're attractive too Maui. I know nothing can happen between us, but I want you to know that." Maui and I gaze at each other intensely for a couple of minutes before I break the silence looming over us. "I have to go to class now, but can we talk later?" He stifles a nervous laugh. "Absolutely. We need to figure things out after all. Are you free after school for a bit?" "Honestly, I don't know yet, but I'll let you know." He nods and waves goodbye to me as I head down the hall to my next class with a million bees flying about in my head and a million butterflies flying around in my heart.

Hope that you guys liked this part of this one shot! Sorry for not updating these past couple of days! I've been traveling a lot and busy with my audition for the Voice, which unfortunately didn't have a good outcome. I got rejected, but I'm still glad I tried. I'll be home tomorrow night so my updates will slowly get back to normal. :) -Mary
