Mall Chaos

One Shot #22

Moana's POV

It's been a normal afternoon out at the mall. My parents dropped me off two hours ago so I could do some clothes shopping for school. School starts up again next week so I wanted to get some new clothes. My friend Jessica was supposed to come with me, but she cancelled at the last minute. I'm a bit bummed, but the cute outfits I've bought so far have brightened my mood. I'm about to go into Hot Topic, my favorite store in the world, when all of the sudden every in the mall in running about in a frenzy. Assuming it's just some fangirls attending the Hunter Hayes book signing at Barnes and Noble, I ignore them.

Eventually, I'm the only one left in the store. I also realize that there's a shooter in the mall. I hear gunshots coming from a store downstairs. Moana, why didn't you run away with everyone else? Now, you've managed to put your life in danger. What happens if the gunman works his way up here and shoots you right in the head. I hide in the dressing room and lock myself in there. I put my phone on silent, but quickly text my parents to let them know what's going on.

Outside of the store, I hear footsteps and panic. I bury my face in my hands as the footsteps get closer. I clutch my heart as I can see the footsteps under the door. "Come out please" says a loud, booming male voice. I don't say anything, but the man starts rapping on the door. "I promise I'm not the gunman. I'm here to protect you. I was making the rounds to see if everyone got out in time and I hear a muffled voice coming from inside this store so I wanted to make sure you were okay. I'm a security guard. My name's Maui." I lean against the door, closing my eyes and breathing a breath of relief that I'm not going to die this very second.

Slowly, I open the dressing room door and I'm face to face with Maui. He gives me a kind smile, which I return with a nervous one. Maui's a rather large man, both height wise and muscle wise. He also has a nice head of hair and tattoos covering every inch of his body. Based on his tattoos, I can tell he's a Pacific Islander like me, which is pretty cool. "Thank you for coming for me. If you hadn't have found me, I easily could have been dead." "As long as I'm around princess, I'll protect you. By the way, what's your name? I like to address people by their name." "My name's Moana." "What a lovely name for a lovely girl." I blush. The longer I stare at Maui, the more attractive he becomes.

"How old are you Maui?" "I'm twenty two. How are you?" I tuck a strand of hair behind my ear shyly. "I'm turning eighteen next week." He grins a toothy grin. "Well in that case, happy early birthday." I giggle and he raises an eyebrow. "Do you happen to have any plans?" "Not at the moment. Why?" He puts an arm around me, grinning once again. "I'd like to take you out for a proper birthday dinner." My slightly red blush from before turns into a full on tomato one. "That'd be nice. Can we swap numbers?" He nods and hands me his phone to put my number in and I hand him mine so he can put his number in. After a couple minutes, we each get our rightful phones back.

Being so giddy in this moment, both of us have completely forgotten about the shooter. Maui leads me out of the mall quietly, using his arms to shield me in case any bullets magically fly up onto the second floor. Once we're out of the mall, I hug him. "Thank you for saving my life." He hugs me back equally tight. "You're welcome darling."

Hope that you guys liked this one shot! I got this very random idea in my head last night and wanted to do something with it. :) -Mary
