Part Of Your World (Part 1)

One Shot #35

Moana's POV

For all of my sixteen years of life, I've been roaming the ocean waters with my fellow mermaid best friend Ariel. You see, my parents threw my into the sea when they found out I was a mermaid. Since then, Ariel's father King Triton has been raising me like a second daughter. Ariel though is two years older older than me, making her eighteen. Though as much as I love swimming in the ocean with my best friend and the man I consider to be my father, I've long been longing to walk the shore as well as find true love. Don't get me wrong, the mermen here are kind, but they aren't relationship material. They're more like brother figures than anything else.

Ariel notices me deep in thought and swims over to me, studying my face carefully. "Are you okay Moana?" I sigh. "I'm fine Ariel. I'm just thinking." She raises an eyebrow. "What about you thinking about?" "What it would be like to leave the ocean waters and explore the all of the lands in the world. I also wonder what true love feels like." Ariel slumps down on a rock and I join her. "I understand how you feel Moana. I'm at the age most mermaids get married and I have yet to find a decent suitor. It would be pretty cool to walk along the shore too."

In unison, Ariel and I dive into a song that perfectly describes our feelings, that being Part of Your World:

Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl
The girl who has everything?
Look at this trove, treasures untold
How many wonders can one cavern hold?
Lookin' around here you'd think
Sure, she's got everythingI've got gadgets and gizmos aplenty
I've got whooz-its and whatz-its galore
You want thingamabobs?
I got twenty
But who cares?
No big deal
I want moreI want to be where the people are
I want to see
Want to see 'em dancing
Walking around on those
Whadd'ya call 'em? Oh, feet
Flipping your fins you don't get too far
Legs are required for jumping, dancing
Strolling along down a
What's that word again? StreetUp where they walk
Up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wandering free
Wish I could be
Part of that worldWhat would I give
If I could live
Out of these waters?
What would I pay
To spend a day
Warm on the sand?
Betcha on land
They understand
That they don't reprimand their daughters
Bright young women
Sick of swimming
Ready to standAnd I'm ready to know what the people know
Ask 'em my questions
And get some answers
What's a fire and why does it
What's the word? Burn? When's it my turn?
Wouldn't I love
Love to explore that shore above?
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of that world
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of your world

We stop singing and simply gaze off at the horizon, our song saying the words we were struggling to speak aloud.

Hoped that you guys liked this part of this one shot! This was the most requested one in the poll so I decided to do it first. I'm sure I'll end up doing some of the others as well afterwards. :) -Mary
