A Broken Man (Part 7)

One Shot #27 (Cont.)

Maui's POV

After hearing what Moana has to deal with on a daily basis, I knew in my mind and heart that I had to stop picking on her. That poor girl has never had any kindness thrown her away nor success. She seems like a nice girl. I'm glad that Adam decided to hire her. He better pay her good money. If he doesn't, I'll kick his ass. Well more like hit it. No that sounds weird. You know what I mean. I'm not one to talk about my feelings much, but talking to Moana was nice today. Talking actually does help you cope a bit, especially to someone who understands what it's like to struggle. I really hope Moana's okay. I'm worried that she got held in traffic or something, which in return pissed her father off enough to hurt her. She doesn't know this, but before she left, I slipped a piece of paper with my phone number on it into her shirt pocket. I hope she notices and reaches out to me.

  Moana's POV

I get home just in time. My father is passed out thankfully so I have some peace and quiet. That's rare for me these days so I'll cherish every minute of it. I'm about do some writing to keep myself busy when I feel a slight lump in my shirt. I reach up into my pocket and find a piece of paper. That's weird. I wonder how that got there. I open it up and find Maui's name and number on it. I put his number in my phone and call him. The phone rings four times before I hear him pick up. "Did you slip that paper in my pocket when I wasn't looking?" "Guilty as charged. I wanted to hear from you. I hope you got home safely. You're not hurt are you?" "I'm glad you did to be honest and I'm fine for now. My father's passed out from drinking. I should be left alone for the rest of the night."

Maui and I continue to talk back and forth for an hour before he loudly yawns into the phone. "Maui, get some rest please. It's been a long day for you." "I know. For real this time, good night." I giggle. "Good night Maui." I hang up the phone and dive into my writing for awhile until I get tired myself and collapse into bed.
