You Gave Up... (Part 4)

One Shot #8 (Cont.)

Maui's POV

Time Skip... A Month Later... The Wedding...

Everyone from the village of Montonui is sitting in the crowd. Even Gramma Tala and Te Fiti are here in spirit. My nerves are building up with each passing second. I'm about to marry my Moana. It doesn't feel real. It feels like a dream. Her father puts a hand on my shoulder. "You're fine Maui. You look good and everything is running smoothly. I'm going to be walking Moana down the aisle so I have to go. I'll see you again in a few." I give him a nod and sincere smile, watching him dash back down the aisle.

     10 minutes later...

The harpist begins to play the traditional wedding song and I straighten up. This is it Maui. Moana's going to be walking down that aisle in a wedding dress and she's going to become your wife. This moment will be one you'll remember forever. The crowd stands up and slowly turning a corner, is Moana arm in arm with her father. She's wearing a cream colored ruffled wedding dress, falling gracefully around her with a flower crown on her head. She looks like an angel. She makes eye contact with me and I clutch my heart. Her beauty is just too much for my heart to take. Her father gives me one more pat on the shoulder as he places Moana onto me. I take her hands in mine gratefully as the pastor begins to speak.

"Welcome everyone. We're gathered here today to witness the marriage of Maui, demigod of the wind and sea and the Chief of Montonui/Expert Wayfinder Moana. They prove to have a love that's greater than any other I've ever seen. With that being said, you two may now exchange your vows. Moana you go first." Moana takes a step forward with a beaming smile on her face. "Maui, when I first met you, I was going by the crazy things I heard in the stories my grandmother told me. You may have made some mistakes, but we all have, and I'm glad that people aren't throwing your mistakes in your face anymore. You've come so far since then. I'm truly blessed that you've allowed me to be a part of the journey for nearly three years now, even counting those few months that we were apart." I frown a little, but quickly shift it back to a smile for Moana's sake. "I love you so much Maui. We got through that rough patch and came out better than ever. I'm so excited to see what our future holds, but I know it's going to be bright."

I put a hand to Moana's cheek and begin reading my vows. "My precious Moana, I can't even begin to thank you for everything you've done for me. You've helped me become the man I've spent two thousand years hoping I'd be. That's a long wait." That gets a few chuckles out of the crowd. "But despite that long wait, it was worth it, knowing that one day, I'd actually find a woman who loves me for me, flaws and all. Even after all of the pain I caused you, you still found it in your heart to forgive me, which took a lot of courage and strength on your part. I'm so happy you did though because now I finally feel complete again. I love you Moana. You're incredibly beautiful inside and out. You're just flawless darling."

We both look at each other longingly, waiting for the pastor to let us close the space between us and kiss already. He can tell we're impatient so he quickly rambles the rest of his speech and motions for us to kiss. The crowd erupts in cheers as we kiss, though as Moana and I get deeper into the kiss, everyone else fades out of view and it's just her and I. This is exactly how I imagined our wedding being. Truthfully, I wouldn't want it being any other way. I'm now officially married to the love of my life and I can't wait to go on new adventures with Moana, this time as her husband instead of merely as her boyfriend.

Hope that you guys liked this one shot! :) -Mary
