The History Teacher And His Student (Part 4)

One Shot #23 (Cont.)

Moana's POV

   A few days later...

It's Saturday, which means I can relax a bit. Well, after my homework is done that is. I've finished most of it except for an essay for Ancient Civilization. It's only a three paragraph essay, but the prompt is confusing. I think I should ask Maui for some clarification. I ended up putting his number into my contacts. I scroll down my contacts, press his name, and text him the following: "Hey Maui, it's me Moana. I just need some clarification on the essay due Monday. Thank you!" My phone goes off nearly instantly with a response from Maui: "I'm glad to hear from you! The essay prompt seems complicated, but it's pretty simple. It's just a compare and contrast essay on Aztec Civilization and Mayan Civilization." I respond back with: "Makes sense now. Thank you!" My phone goes off once more with the following: "You're welcome -Maui ;)" My heart flutters at the winky face emoji.

I manage to finish my essay within an hour, freeing up the rest of my weekend. I text Kayla asking her if she's free and she is. I'm going to meet her at the mall in two hours.  Until then, I'm going to Netflix and chill, minus the sex. I'm not about that life, at least not yet.

Two hours later...

Kayla's mother and her pull up in front of my house in a minivan. My mother goes out with me to meet Kayla's mother. She's one of those protective mothers. It's frustrating at times, but I'd rather have a mother who cares than one who doesn't care at all. Both of my parents are wonderful inside and out. I love them to death. They talk to each other for a couple of minutes before we head out. Her mother is super friendly and talks to me for most of the ride. When I get out of the car, I thank her for the ride and tell her my mother will pick me up later. She nods, smiles, waves, and drives off.

Kayla and I dash off to my favorite store first, which happens to be Charlotte Russe. Not only do they have like the cutest clothes ever, but their deals are amazing. I can walk out of that store with seven or more things for thirty dollars. I'm a bargain shopper so I get my deals on the clearance racks. I promised Kayla we'd go to hear favorite store next, which is Hot Topic. I like that store too. It has a lot of Disney merch and I'm a Disney fanatic.

As I browse the clearance racks, a shiny golden maxi dress catches my eye. I grab it and squeal when I see it's marked down to ten dollars. I hold it up to Kayla and show her it. She squeals back. "Oh my god Moana, that dress is gorgeous. You should buy it and wear to school on Monday. You'd turn everyone's head, especially Maui's." My heart races at the mention of Maui. "What do you mean by especially Maui?" She giggles. "I've noticed the way he treats and looks at you. You're by far his favorite student. I think I'm his second favorite because I'm your friend, but you're definitely his first." I try to hold back a smile, but my lip quivers and I break out into a smile instantly. I like the thought of being Maui's favorite student because it just so happens that Maui's my favorite teacher.

Kayla and I spend another three hours at the mall shopping, eating, and even playing a few arcade games before heading home. As we leave the mall, I give her a hug goodbye and tell her I'll text her tomorrow. She nods with a smile and gets into her mother's car. Her mother gives me one more friendly smile and wave before they drive off and I get into my mother's car. "Hi sweetie, how was the mall?" I smile. "It was fun. I got this really cute dress along with a couple other little things." She smiles back. "I'm glad to hear that. You should wear the new dress Monday. I know how young girls like to model off new outfits at school." I nod, daydreaming about Maui's reaction to seeing me in a dress. I think I'll do my makeup Monday morning too. I know it's odd, but I have this urge to look nice and impress him all of the sudden. Hopefully, that urge isn't a bad thing.

Hope that you guys liked this part of this one shot! I've been out all day and I head to Maryland in the morning, but I wanted to update at least once today in case I don't get to again for the next couple of days or so. My audition for the Voice is on Saturday and I have to be up at four in the morning, which I'm dreading. I just have to remember that it's for an important cause haha. By the way, I'm using Giselle  from the movie Enchanted to represent Kayla. :)  -Mary
