Going Green (Part 3)

One Shot #33 (Cont.)

Maui's POV

I caught Moana in my arms right as she began to hit the floor. I notice how pale she is and the look of fear plastered on the poor girl's face. When she wakes up, god only knows how she's going to react. Probably with the same amount, if not more fear than is already on her face. I'm even more afraid of her going to the police and/or a containment team to put me down like a rabid dog. I'll try to calmly reason with her. I just hope the green guy doesn't take control of me again in front of her.

 Two hours later...

Moana's eyes begin to flutter open. She lies in my arms awake for a couple minutes before jumping out of them in panic, causing my heart to sink once more. "W-w-w-what are you?" I put my hands up in surrender. "Moana, please let me explain." She backs away to the other side of the lab and shields herself from me. "P-p-please don't hurt me." I frown and can hear the drained energy in my voice when I speak again. "I'll talk from over here. Is that okay?" She nods. "About a year ago, I was tinkering around with some specimens. I can't remember exactly what they were, but I do remember that they were near some radioactive test tubes. Me being the clumsy guy I am, I ended up knocking down a rack of the radioactive tubes and one of them spilled onto me."

I take a deep breath trying to calm myself down. I see that skin is showing traces of green and I panic. I don't want to lose control twice in one day. I clench my fists and eventually the traces of green disappear. "When the radioactive tube fell onto me, a weird and rather dark energy spread throughout my body. I got angry and then suddenly instead of staring at myself in the mirror, I saw this big, green, terrifying creature. I've been working endlessly to try to come up with a cure, but have yet to do so." Moana takes a small step towards me but still grips the wall. "I could help you sir. I mean I know I haven't been as friendly towards you as I could be, but I'd like to help. Only if you want me to that is. The last thing I want to do is intrude into a matter that doesn't concern me."

I stand there in silence for a moment contemplating that before giving her a nod.  Moana looks genuinely surprised. "Really? You'll let me help?" "Yes. Now please, run along. I'm letting you go home an hour early. You'll get paid for the last hour despite leaving. I know this has been a rough and scary day for you." She bows gratefully before heading towards the door. As she has one foot out, I call after her. "Moana, wait!" She turns back to face me. "I'm truly sorry for today's events Moana. For the record, every time I shift into that monster, I'm just as terrified as you were, if not more so." Moana comes over to me and wraps her arms around me, giving me... a hug. I've hardly ever been hugged by anyone so her actions both baffle me and melt me. I really hope I don't get too attached to this girl, but I highly doubt that I won't.
