The Devil With A Shotgun (Part 16)

One Shot #31 (Cont.)

Moana's POV

A week later... in court...

Today is Maui's court hearing. This will either make him or break him. I'm leaning towards the first one. I've been rehearsing with Maui for days on exactly what to say. What I did was give him practice questions and hypothetical scenarios to tackle. He managed to tackle each one with such ease. If he does that today, he'll be fine. The court begins to fill up with people. I can see Maui tense up. I go up to him and rub his shoulders. They relax at my touch, causing a smile to tug at my lips. I love that I can put Maui at ease. It's an amazing feeling. "You got this Maui. We couldn't have practiced everything more if we tried." He nods. I pull his face towards mine and kiss him as if I'll never see him again. "I'll see you outside." I head out into the seating area and silently watch the trial go down.

Maui's getting grilled with questions a mile a minute, but just as we practiced, he's giving pretty much the same answers as he did to me more or less. I can tell that his lawyer and the lawyer of the opposing side are both mind blown.

Two hours later...

After another hour of debating and an additional hour of awaiting a decision, the jury begins to flow back into the courtroom, indicating that a decision has been made. I try to study their facial expressions to see if they give the answer away. Unfortunately, their facial expressions remain neutral. The judge comes out close behind them. She bangs a mallet to settle down everyone in the court. She then calls upon a member of the jury to read the verdict aloud. I silently pray that he's innocent. I open my eyes when hearing the word innocent. Maui looks at me with a smile of pure joy. I give him the same one back. A series of mixed reactions go off in the courtroom, but I tune everyone out. I run to Maui and throw myself into his arms. He picks me up and spins me around. The action causes me to giggle like a little girl. I can't help it. I'm just so happy.

"You're free Maui. How does it feel?" He kisses my forehead tenderly. "It feels pretty damn great. Anyways, are you ready to leave? I don't want to waste another second not living my life with you." I lean my head on his shoulder as he carries me out of the courthouse in his arms. I'm so excited to start my life with Maui.

Hoped that you guys liked this one shot! I have a weird idea for my next one. I'm going to mentally develop it overnight and hopefully start writing it tomorrow. :) -Mary
