The Devil With A Shotgun (Part 1)

One Shot #31

Moana's POV

It's just a typical day of college for me at Hadford University in Seattle. I'm a sophomore in college majoring in Mass Communications. In other words, I want to have a job that relates to radio and/or social media. I'm a huge social media person. I have accounts on nearly every app and site. I even make Youtube videos in my spare time. I'm about to go Calculus when all of the sudden everyone's phones go off. I look at my phone and see an alert has popped up. It's an alert telling everyone on campus to take cover in the nearest classroom. There's a shooter going from building to building. In a hurry, everyone scrambles into classrooms. My Calculus class is down the hall so I quickly run into there and hide.

My professor is an older man who looks just as nervous as we do. Every minute or so, he shouts at us to stay calm. I think he's even more nervous than we are. Another alert goes off saying that the shooter is on the first floor of the Hammond building. My body begins to shake. That's this building. I'm on the third floor. The professor locks the door, closes the windows, shuts the blinds, and shuts the lights off. Everyone then puts their phones on silent so they can talk to others, but not where the shooter can hear us. I really don't want to die. I'm so young. I'm only nineteen years old. Life has just began for me. It's horrible how cruel people take the lives of the innocent without so much as batting an eyelash.

Loud heavy footsteps fill the hallway. I hear doors being broken down and gunshots going off. The screams of students and professors fill my ears. They're so horrible and sad that I have to cover my ears. I can't bear to hear anymore. Just as I think it's over, our classroom door is kicked down and the shooter is standing before us, with a gun in hand and manic look on his face. He goes after our professor. "So old man, tell me, what part of your body should I shoot? I was thinking your head or heart would be fun. You know that way you can die quickly." He wimpers and my heart breaks. He seems like a nice man. He doesn't deserve this. I need to do something.

I force myself to walk to the front of the classroom. Everyone looks at me like I'm crazy, which I probably am, but I can't let this innocent man die in the hands of a monster. "Put the gun down. You've proven your point. You're a monster. You've killed enough innocent people." He drops my professor onto the ground. He's short of breath but otherwise he's fine. The shooter shifts his attention... and his gun onto me. "You better watch your mouth or you'll be my next victim." I shrug my shoulders and casually sit on the desk. "Eh whatever." The shooter, who's a muscular, tattooed man looks at me weirdly. "Stop that. You're supposed to be quivering in fear of me. Of all things, I find myself laughing at his statement. "Oh sir, I've been through this situation before. This isn't my first rodeo with a psycho gunman wanting to kill me."

He studies my face carefully before speaking again. Surprisingly, he puts the gun down. "You're lucky you're brave." With that being said, the shooter runs off as the police and paramedics begin to arrive on scene. As he goes, I can't help but wonder why he didn't shoot me.

Hoped that you guys liked this part of this one shot! The idea popped into my head this morning and I thought it'd be an interesting one to work with. Also, thank you for 18,000+ reads and #392 in fanfiction. <3 :) -Mary
