The Devil With A Shotgun (Part 5)
One Shot #31 (Cont.)
Moana's POV
The next day...
I texted Maui this morning to tell him to meet me at two. It's one fifty five, but Maui's already here. How lovely, he's punctual. I wasn't expecting that out of him. I pictured him not giving a shit and showing up either an hour late or not at all. Well he's a killer so I when I really think about it, he's probably very precise and detailed in his planning. I give him a polite smile and indicate that I want to get my food. He nods and lets me do so. A few minutes later, I'm back at the table with two cheeseburgers, a small fry, and a coke.
"Thanks for meeting me for lunch. I didn't think you were going to tell me your name, let alone text me back and want to see me again." I laugh awkwardly. "Yeah I didn't think so either." "So Moana, tell me about yourself." I raise an eyebrow. "What do you want to know?" "Anything you're willing to tell me." I ponder that for a moment. I should be careful not to tell him too much. After all, he has a prison and murder track record. I don't want to be added to that. "Well I'm a sophomore at Hadford majoring in Mass Communications, I'm nineteen, I'm a massive bookworm, I write for the school paper, I take weekly dance classes, and I even sing from time to time. I'm a decent dancer and writer, but singing... not so much. What about you?"
I can see Maui tense up. "Well I'm twenty six, I work at a liquor store near my apartment full time, I have a record, I might go back to jail soon, I need mental help, and I've lived in Seattle all of my life." I look at him in shock. That's a lot to process. "Maui, can I ask you a question?" He nods hesitantly. "Do you like doing what you've been doing? Do you get pleasure out of it? You've taken so much from so many people." A frown forms on his face and he sighs. "I did it out of revenge. I got rejected from every single college I wanted to attend after my gap year, including Hadford University. All of them told me that I was the biggest dumbass to apply there, literally. I vowed then to go after as many of them as I could. I got rejected from ten. As of recently, I've gotten revenge on eight."
I frown at his words. "Maui... you can change. I know that might not be something you want to hear, but it's never to late to fix things. You don't have to be like this. You can be a better person." Maui smiles to himself. "A better person... yeah I'd like that." He then looks right at me. "I think you're going to be good for me mama." I fake gag again at that nickname. Maui laughs. "What you don't like that nickname?" I roll my eyes. "Actually no. It makes me feel like a slut, which I'm not." His laugh disappears and he becomes serious. It's amazing how fast his mood changes. "I know you're not a slut Moana. If you were, I wouldn't be as interested in you as I am..."
