Brainwashed (Part 3)
One Shot #26 (Cont.)
Moana's POV
I'm just doing some cleaning around the cave when I see the shadow of a big figure approaching me. I can see my body tense up, but I try to remain calm and collected. When the figure is close enough, I realize it's...Maui. I immediately grab a hold of a rock beside me for defense. I'm about to throw it at him when he grabs a hold of my arm to stop me. "You're a villain and I want no part in whatever evil plot you're trying to fulfill." I don't if it's my imagination getting the best of me, but it seems as if Maui appears hurt by my words.
I laugh. "What's wrong Maui? Did the cat get your tongue or are my words too big for you? Let me dumb it down a bit for you. You... are... a... monster... who... needs...to...leave..." Anger forms on his face, turning his gentle features rather ugly. "You're the dumb one here. You can't even see that your mind isn't your own. That crab wormed his way inside your mind, giving you false memories. You don't love him Moana. He's brainwashing you into thinking that." I roll my eyes and snort. "If I didn't know any better and I probably don't, I'd say that you're jealous." Maui puffs out his chest. "Yeah as if. Who'd want to be with a girl who can't even use her own mind. I've dated enough bimbos. I don't need to add one more to that last list."
I barely know Maui, but his words have managed to hurt me to the point that when I try to open my mouth to give him a comeback, nothing comes out. He studies my face and I study his. A million thoughts race through my mind. Maybe I do know him aside from the stories my Gramma used to tell me. Though, I can't place where or how exactly. I take a deep breath and force myself to look into his eyes. "Look, I'm sorry for what I said. I crossed a line, which was completely uncalled for. I don't know you that well so I shouldn't be judging you. Can you forgive me?" Maui looks at me for a moment before nodding his head. I smile. "You should probably get out of here soon. Tamatoa's going to come back and he won't be happy at the sight of you. No offense."
Maui laughs. "None taken. Though, I'm not leaving just yet. I'm going to help you get your memory back." I look at Maui in confusion. "I don't understand what you're talking about, but you seemed pretty determined so I won't stop you." He sighs. "Your husband is an evil creature who's done a lot more harm than I have. When you get your memory back and realize that, I'll be here, waiting, to take you home. Can you just answer me one question Moana?" I cock my head to the side. "Sure. What's your question?" Maui takes a step closer to me. "Does this dark, creepy cave really feel like home to you?" I sigh and look him right in the eyes, answering back with a clear "no." Maui smirks, obviously satisfied with my response.
