A Decision To Weigh (Part 2)

Imagine #5 (Cont.)

Moana's POV

The next morning...

I wake up, freshen up, grab some fruit to go, and make way down to the shore. That tends to be the place where Maui goes to do his thinking. It takes me about ten minutes to walk down there but when I get there, he is indeed sitting on a rock on the shore, looking out at the vast and beautiful ocean. When he hears my footsteps, he straights up. I go over to him and sit down beside him. "Do you have room for one more on that rock?" He stifles a laugh. "Always." He moves over and lets me sit beside him.

He turns to face me. "So Moana, have you given any thought to that big decision?" I nod. "I have." Eagerness washes over him. "And what decision did you come to?" I try to hold back a smile but fail. "I want to voyage to Te Fiti and seek immortality." His jaw drops, as if he can't believe what I'm saying is actually true. "You really want to be with me Moana?" I grab a hold of both of his hands and squeeze them reassuringly. "Absolutely. In fact, I've never wanted anything more." He leans his forehead into mine. "You don't know how happy that makes me Moana." I smile. "The fact that you actually liked me back makes me happier than I could ever say." He caresses my cheek. "When do you want to leave for Te Fiti?" "How about tonight? I need the day to gather some supplies, tell my parents, and address the village. After that, I'm all yours." He smiles down at me. "Sounds good. I'll leave you to it then chief. See you tonight." I giggle. "See you tonight."

Two hours later...

I knock on my parents hut to see if they're home. They both shout for me to come in so I do. They greet me with big hugs and warm smiles. "How's it going lovebug?" I smile at that nickname. My mother came up with it ages ago and it just stuck with me all this time. "It's going good. Though there's something I need to tell you and dad. I wanted to tell you both in private before I do a public announcement in front of the entire village. Though what not all of what I'm going to be telling you will be addressed to the village, at least now yet." "You can tell us anything sweetheart" says my dad.

"Mother, father, I know you guys are expecting me to get a suitor at some point in the future." They nod. "Well there's this guy I've liked for a year and last night I found out that he likes me back." My father gives a small smile while my mother squeals and jumps up and down. She then envelopes me into a hug. "That's so wonderful Moana. Have we met him?" My father's stare intensifies as I linger to answer my mother's question. "You have... though I'm not sure you guys care for him all that much." My father then speaks up. "It's Maui isn't it?" I bite my lip and nod. My mother giggles. "I knew it. I see the way he looks at you and the way you act around him. I knew from the very beginning you two would end together." I look at my mother in surprise. "So you're okay with us being together?" She kisses my cheek. "Absolutely. Honestly, you two were made for each other.  There's no other man I could see you with besides him." My heart flutters at that comment. "I agree mother. What about father? Are you okay with me being with Maui?" My father who's rarely ever emotional, is sitting before me crying actual tears. "Moana, I'm not going to be around forever to protect you from the dangers of the world and there is no other man I trust to protect you than Maui. I know that he wouldn't hesitate to take a bullet for you. Hell he'd risk his life for you. I respect that deeply. Your mother and I both give you our blessing to be with Maui."

Tears well up in my eyes and I run into both of my parents' arms. "I'm so glad both of you support Maui and I. I was worried you would be against it." Both of my parents frown at that. "We would never be against it. You deserve to be with a man who is going to love you with all of his heart and give you the world. Your father and I both know Maui is that man." I wipe away my tears. "I know he is. Otherwise, I wouldn't have fallen for him. Though there is one more piece to this that I need to tell you both." They nod and motion for me to continue. "Maui and I are venturing to Te Fiti and we leave tonight. The only way that I can truly spend life with Maui is if I'm immortal. He thinks that Te Fiti will grant me immortality. When I come back, I might not be the same person I was. Will you accept me as I am?" They both smile at me affectionately. "Always. We love you Moana and we'll be here waiting for you when you get back." my father says.

I hug both of my parents before the three of us make our way out of the hut and down to the village center where I plan on addressing everyone. I stand on a platform and everyone drops what they're doing and gives me their full attention. "Thank you everyone for taking the time to listen to what I have to say. I know you all have a lot to do so I'll make this quick. I'm going to be away on a voyage. I will be away for at least a week, though it could be longer depending on how things go. In my absence, my father will be in my place. I'll be heading out tonight. I promise you though that I will return." With all of that being said, I make my way through the mass of people, saying goodbyes to each and every one of them. Most of them give me hugs and kisses on the cheek, causing my heart to swell. Everyone in the village is absolutely lovely. Not a single person here has ever been disrespectful towards my family and I. They may have joked here and there about Gramma Tala, but none of the jokes were ever derogatory.

That night...

I meet Maui once again on the shore, with a bag of supplies, clothes, food, and drinks in tow. He greets me with a grin, which I return with an equally wide one. "Let's go on an adventure Moana." "Let's do it Maui!" Maui unties the boat from the dock and together we set sail into the night.
