I Vow To You (Part 7)
One Shot #32 (Cont.)
Moana's POV
A week later...
My parents are coming over in a bit to visit Maui and I. I haven't seen them in months so it'll be nice to catch up on everything. I just hope they don't overwhelm me with trying to remember things. I love them so much, but there's a reason why I limit my conversations and visits with them at times. They're not mean people, but they often cross boundaries. Maui has reassured me several times that everything will be fine and he'll make sure that no lines are crossed today. I hope he's right...
Two hours later...
The doorbell rings. I rush to get it, but Maui stops me. "Relax Mo, I'll buzz them in." I sigh and plop down onto the living room couch. My parents then come walking through the door sounding quite chipper. Though when they come over to me, they look at me with such pity it makes me sick to my stomach. Besides Maui, everyone else has only looked at me in pity since the accident. It's so frustrating. "Hi mom, hi dad." My mom hugs me while crying which makes me both sad and uneasy. Meanwhile, my dad is the first one of the two to speak. "Hey Moana. How are you doing darling?" I give him a nervous smile. "I'm doing good. My injuries from the accident are healing nicely and Maui's been treating me with such care. Though, I really want to go back to work soon. I hate not being able to keep busy with directed tasks. I'm a person who likes to be on the go rather than sitting around like a couch potato."
My mom finally stops crying and looks into my eyes. "I'm sorry for bursting into tears like that baby girl. I've just been so worried about you. Your father and I wanted to come to the hospital to visit you after the accident, but work and life have been keeping us so busy." I sigh. "I love you guys, but honestly, you could have set aside one day to come and see me." They nod sadly and say "We know" in unison. We then sit there in awkward silence for a bit before they decide it's best to leave. I watch them go without evening saying goodbye to them.
I'm absolutely pissed. I was stupid to think that they'd actually understand what I've been through. They don't hate me, but they certainly don't think I matter that much. I stare off into space. It takes me a few minutes to even notice Maui sitting next to me. "Moana, are you okay?" I can't help but laugh at his question. "Am I okay? Hell no. I got my hopes up once again that this visit with my parents was going to go well, but that was just downright awkward. They looked at me like I'm broken and of course they got defensive when I called them out on never making time for me. They will always put everything and everyone else above me." Tears prickle the corner of my eyes. "I just wish that I had one family member or friend who actually gave a damn about me."
Maui being the only one that I can rely on and trust, I allow myself to crumble into pieces in his muscular yet safe arms. He holds me and allows me to let my sobs out without any judgment. When I'm done, I simply stare into his eyes. He does the same. "You know Maui, you're the only one I can count on, yet you're the only person I can't remember. Isn't that ironic?" He sighs sadly. "Yeah it is, but I'm just glad you trust me Moana. I was so worried that you'd shut me out and not want me around." I cup his face gently. "How couldn't I want you around? You're amazing Maui. I know we fell in love long before the accident, but I think I'm falling in love with you all over again." Maui's frown shifts into a small and gentle smile. He then grabs my waist and pulls me towards him, crashing his oh so lovely lips onto mine.
Hoped that you guys liked this part of this one shot! I had a really awful day today, but wanted to post an update for you guys despite it. <3 -Mary
