I Vow To You (Part 5)

One Shot #32 (Cont.)

Moana's POV

A week later...

My doctor told me last night that he's releasing me to go home today. My home with Maui, but I don't remember it. I know when I walk through the apartment door, he's going to ask me a million questions in which I won't have answers too. I know he's excited for me to home again, but it's not going to feel like home until I can actually remember it. My memories come in waves. I remember a little here and there, that's pretty much it though.

As I sign my hospital release forms, Maui keeps staring at me like an adorable puppy. While it is cute, it's giving me some anxiety as well. I really hope that he doesn't pounce on me about anything. "Maui, I'm excited to see where we live, but I need you to understand that it's going to take time for my memory to come back to me. I might not comprehend what you tell me the first time around. I might ask the same question multiple times. Can you handle that?" Hurt forms across Maui's face but he attempts to hide it. "I'm not going to pressure you into doing anything nor will I bother you with a ton of questions. I'll take things slow with you. I promise Moana." I nod hesitantly and allow him to drive me to our apartment.

Half an hour later...

It takes a little while to get back to the apartment due to heavy suppertime traffic, but as Maui parks the car in the parking lot, I can feel my nerves increasing by the second. My palms and forehead are super sweaty, my hands are shaking, and my stomach is doing all sorts of flip flop motions. Maui puts a hand on me gently. "Are you okay Moana?" I give him a slight nod and small smile. He gives me the same back and slowly, we head inside. "I'll let you explore it yourself. You'll probably be more relaxed in doing it that way." "Thank you for understanding Maui." "Anytime Moana. I'll be in the living room reading if you need me."

Maui walks  back down the hall and I'm left to explore alone. I study everything from the pictures hanging on the walls to the organization of each room. Not much is coming back to me, but one thing is certain. I'm definitely a neat freak. I chuckle to myself. I'm glad I inherited my mother's cleaning OCD rather than sloppiness.
