Harvard Soccer (Part 5)
One Shot #36 (Cont.)
Moana's POV
The next day...
I arrive to practice about twenty minutes early because I wanted to talk to Maui before practice starts. I need to know what yesterday meant. It's obvious that there's some attraction between us, but I don't know if pursuing romance with my soccer coach is the wisest idea. Though on the other hand, I'm not exactly known for making the wisest decisions. The type of decisions I make are the ones that seem right at the time, but eventually come back to bite me in the ass. I see Maui sitting on a bench scrolling through his phone. I take a deep breath and make my way over to him. He doesn't notice me right away so I have to awkwardly cough to get his attention. When I do, that does it. Maui gives me a nervous smile. Weird. Maui's usually really cocky and stern. This is new.
"Hey coach. I was wondering if we could talk about yesterday quickly before everyone else gets here." He frowns but nods. I think he got hurt by me calling him coach. It's not my fault. I don't know where we stand, let alone how to address him right now. I'm about to speak some more but Maui puts a hand up to silence me. "Before you speak any further Moana, I apologize for my actions yesterday. I crossed ten different lines doing and saying what I did. Not only am I your coach, but I'm also nearly fifteen years older than you. If I had done that around the other girls, there's not doubt that I would have made you look bad and I wouldn't want that. You're an amazing soccer player and I don't want to ruin this great opportunity for you."
"You're not ruining anything. In fact, I wanted to tell you that I feel the same way you do, however that is. I actually enjoyed our moment. I find myself wanting to have more of them in the near future. I don't want you to get in trouble so that's why I refrained quickly." Maui looks at me in shock. "You really liked it?" I blush and nod sheepishly. Maui grabs a piece of paper from his backpack and jots down something. He places the paper into the palm of my hand. It takes everything in me to not jump up and down then and there. Maui just gave me his phone number. "Here's what I think Moana, I think that we get to know each other a little more and see where it goes. We'll go with the flow and eventually come to terms with whatever we may or may not have. Does that sound good?" I smile. "That sounds great coach." He laughs. "When the other girls aren't around, feel free to just call me Maui, not coach or coach Maui." "Will do Maui."
Ten minutes later...
The other girls arrive and we dive into another practice session. For a few hours, I have to keep my attraction for Maui at bay and simply focus on soccer. As much as I love soccer, I can't think about anything or anyone else but Maui. Ugh. This is going to be a long day. At least when it's over, I can talk to Maui in private for a few as well as text him.
Hoped that you guys liked this part of this one shot! I'm surprised I had enough energy to update twice today. -Mary
