I Vow To You (Part 2)
One Shot #32 (Cont.)
Moana's POV
A few hours later...
I wake up to find myself in the hospital. Panic swells within me. What happened? Why am I here? A million questions are running through my mind. "Nurse!" A nurse comes running in immediately with a man following close behind. He stares at me rather intensely. It's almost as if he knows me. I don't know him though so he needs to stop looking at me like that. "Nurse, can you explain to me what's going on?" She smiles fondly at me. As I read her nametag, I see her name is Jackie. She looks to be in her thirties, not too much older than me. "Sure love. You got into a really bad car accident tonight. You've been out cold for a few hours. Do you not remember that?" I frown at her. "No nurse Jackie, I don't."
I glance up at the tall, muscular man standing behind her. "You're really cute. Who are you though?" He takes a step towards me. "It's me Maui, your husband." I glance at my right hand and indeed see a wedding ring. I guess he's not entirely lying. "I don't remember getting married. How long have I been married?" He studies my face intensely, this time seeming as he's trying to look for some sign of recognition. "We've been married for four years now Moana. We married each other straight out of college." My mouth stupidly forms an "O" shape. He runs a hand through his hair in a distressed manner. "Do you not remember me?" I look back at him sadly. "No I don't. I'm so sorry." He gives me a sad smile. "It's okay Moana. Do you mind me being here though?" I shake my head no. "You seem nice and I could use the company. You can visit whenever you like."
Maui's POV
"Excuse me Moana. I'll be right back." Moana's nurse follows me out into the hall. "Moana has some severe brain swelling from the accident. Amnesia is actually normal after a traumatic experience such as hers." Anger takes control of me and I spit back at her. "SHE DOESN'T REMEMBER ME! HOW IS THAT OKAY?" She puts a hand on my shoulder. "Please try and calm down Maui." I glare down at her since she's quite short. "DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN. MY WIFE DOESN'T BELIEVE THAT I'M HER HUSBAND!" I sigh. "She thinks I'm just a nice bystander. Nothing more, nothing less." I feel tears teasing the corners of my eyes but I refuse to cry in front of a nurse I barely know. "Do you know how much that hurts? It hurts like hell."
Her nurse looks up at me sadly. "I won't pretend like I understand what you're going through, but I certainly feel for you both. I hope her doctor can help her bring back her memory. He'll be by in a bit. He'll know a lot more about this matter than I do." I nod and watch her leave my side. When she's out of sight, I lean against a nearby vending machine and allow myself to break down. This is a horrible nightmare. I wish I could just wake up and everything will be okay, but who am I kidding. This is far from okay.
