Brainwashed (Part 6)

One Shot #26 (Cont.)

Moana's POV

Maui and I pull apart after five minutes of hugging. I think that was our longest hug yet. Though personally, it was my favorite. My heart fluttered every second he had his arms around me. He held me so tight yet so gently. It was almost as if he lost me somehow. I guess five months of not seeing someone you love can does that to a person and/or demigod. I look deep into his eyes. "Maui... you came back." He chuckles and instantly memories of restoring the heart of Te Fiti come run through my mind. "I feel like we've had a moment like this already before." He puts an arm around me. "That's deja vu for you. Listen, let's get out there. When we get on the boat, I'll explain everything to you." I nod. As I turn to leave, Tamatoa begins to...cry. "Maui, I'll meet you outside. He looks at me hesitantly but allows me to stay behind for a moment.

I squeeze one of Tamatoa's hands, the part that doesn't have sharp claws that could pierce me in the heart with a single try. "I'm sorry that I'm not your true love, but I promise you that someday, you'll find her." Tamatoa gazes down at me with tear stained eyes. "But she'll never be you." I put a hand up to his cheek and caress it gently. "That may be true, but I know she'll probably be better. As for my heart, it belongs to someone else." Tamatoa frowns. "I'll accept you not being with me if you can tell me to my face who your heart belongs to." I look down at the ground nervously and shift from foot to foot. "Tick tick darling, I'm not waiting all day." I quietly say, in nearly a whisper "Maui." He sniffles. "Say it louder please." Annoyance overcomes me and I shout "MY HEART BELONGS TO MAUI!" Right as I say that, Maui comes out of the shadows, starring at me with his jaw dropped.

 Maui's POV

I can't believe what I just heard. Moana loves me. She didn't say those exact words, but at the same time, she did. I pick her up gently and carry her out of the lair in my arms so we can talk more privately. "Do you really mean what you said back there Moana?" Moana bites her lip. "I meant every word. I've had feelings for you since you opened up to me that day about your past." She frowns. "I feel terrible for forgetting about you Maui. For months, I wasn't able to remember the best adventure of my life along with my favorite person in the world. Tamatoa clouded my mind with the image that you're a villain. I'm so sorry Maui."

I pull her towards me and kiss her forehead. "It's not your fault Moana. You weren't you. Tamatoa was controlling you, but you're back now. You're Moana again. You have all of your memories. No more brainwashing and no more lies. You're free of him. We can go home together, that is if you want my company." Moana pulls my face towards her, crashing her lips against mine with utter passion and love. When we pull apart, I chuckle. "I take that as a yes." She blushes and nods into my shoulder. I set the sails on the boat, wrap my arms around her, and enjoy the view, both in front of me and in my arms. I vowed to get Moana's memory back and I did, I just wasn't sure if I was going to win her heart. I'm so glad I did.
