Mousey And The Bad Boy (Part 6)
One Shot #14 (Cont.)
Moana's POV
Time Skip... Two Weeks Later...
Maui officially finished his afterschool detention sessions as of yesterday. I can tell he's relieved of not having to sit in silence for two hours every afternoon anymore. We're currently on our way to lunch because both of us are absolutely starving. Though, I can tell Maui has something on his mind. He doesn't really seem upset, but he is distracted. "Maui, is everything okay?" He snaps out of his daze, looking at me in surprise. "Yeah I'm fine. Just zoned out is all. Why do you ask?" "You just seem distracted is all, like perhaps something's on your mind." He bites his lip. Gosh Moana, don't stare him like that. It's weird. I look him in the eyes. "Well there's something I want to ask you now that detention isn't holding me down anymore." I take a shy step closer to him. "Then ask me." He laughs nervously. "I was wondering if maybe you wanted to hang out this weekend... outside of school." I smile. "I'd love to. Does Saturday work for you?" He smiles back. "It sure does. Saturday it is."
Both of us end up grinning like idiots, both of us clearly feeling a lot of happiness at the fact of spending so much time with one another. These past couple of months though, Maui's become my best friend. It's crazy how the guy who bullied you could end up becoming your favorite person to spend time with. Maui and I go through our usual routine of waiting in the long line of students to get our lunch and head to our usual table, the corner table by the vending machines. Since it's off by itself, most people don't notice it. Most sit in the center of the cafeteria, wanting everyone to notice them. Those people include Maui's old friends and other bullies like them, the jocks, and popular girls.
"So Maui, what would you like to do on Saturday?" He ponders that for a moment before answering. "I thinking maybe we could go out to eat and then the park. Is that too basic?" I smile. "That sounds perfect. By the way Maui, I wanted to thank you." He raises an eyebrow. "Thank me for what?" I put a hand on his arm, causing a rush of energy to run through me. "For everything you've done. I know that we got off to a rough start and that you didn't care for me before, but I'm glad that's changed. You stood up for me when one else would. You even beat the crap out of Kyle, which I still can't believe you did." That stifles a small laugh out of him. "You're all I have Maui. Without you, I'd be completely alone."
Maui's smile turns into a solemn expression. "I hate myself everyday for the way I've treated you. Most people deserve my horrible treatment, but not you. All you wanted to do was come to school and learn in peace. I took that sense of peace away from you along with those stupid assholes I used to be friends with. Even though I've said it before, I'm amazed that you even forgave me." I lean my head on Maui's shoulder, catching him surprise, though he doesn't shove me off. He gazes down into my eyes. "I won't let anyone treat you like that, nor will I ever treat you like that again. I promise." I gaze up into his. "I believe you Maui."
We sit in silence, staring at one another until the bed rings and snaps us out of our thoughts. Maui's grabs both my books and his and carries them to our next class. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that Maui carries my books now. He started doing it last week and I think it's sweet. Plus, it takes a load off of me at times. I'm strong, but I'm also a klutz so I end up dropping them half of the time. Anyways, I'm just excited for Saturday. I wish it could come faster. I sigh in English, knowing that Saturday is still three days away.
Hoped that you guys liked this part of this one shot! :) -Mary
