The Girl Who Has Everything And The Guy Who Has Very Little (Part 4)

One Shot #28 (Cont.)

Maui's POV

Time Skip... A few days later...

I'm in theater right now. This is the only class of mine where I don't have Luis or John in. To be honest, I don't know why I signed up for theater. I'm far from confident and not that great of an actor. The only thing that gets me by is that I have good memory so I can pick up lines pretty quickly. Otherwise, I suck. Moana's in this class along with four others of mine. She sits in the front with all of her friends while I'm the loser who sits in the back and avoids being called on as much as possible. Trevor's in the class sadly as well. He makes my life miserable, especially in theater. I've had to be partners with him three times already this year. I of course had to do all the work so that I didn't fail.

My teacher Ms. Ramirez has been trying to get our attention for five minutes now. She's had mine, but everyone else has been caught up in off topic conversations. "Alright everyone. We're going to be doing our first big project of the year. It'll count for twenty percent of your grade for first quarter. So if you don't do it, you won't get higher than an eighty for the quarter." That gets a mix of gasps and eye rolls from everyone. "For this project, I'll be assigning partners." She begins reading down the list and I notice that Moana nor I have been called yet. As if my wish came true, Ms. Ramirez announces us as partners. I try to play it cool, but on the inside, I'm freaking out. Moana on the other hand, doesn't seem too excited to be my partner. "For this project, you will be writing a scene in the genre of your choice. All I ask is no sexual content and limit the amount of gore. You have two weeks to complete it. You may talk to your partners until the end of class."

I let Moana make her way over to me rather than chase after her. After a couple minutes of hesitation, she sits down next to me. She mumbles a "hi." I smile. "Hi Moana. I know we've never talked before, but I'm Maui. It's nice to meet you." I offer a hand for her to shake, but she just looks at it awkwardly. Sensing the awkwardness, I put it behind my back. "So Maui, what genre should we do?" "I'm fine with anything except horror. I'm not much into blood and gore." That gets a giggle out of her. "I've never heard of a guy not being into horror shows and movies." I bow playfully. "Well I'm the exception. You're welcome by the way. I just enhanced your life." Moana smiles for the first time ever while being near me. Her smile is cute, just like her. I'm glad I didn't say that aloud or else she'd slap me. She's just being nice. I'm sure that after this project is over, she'll go back to ignoring me, just as everyone else does.

I try to block out the negative thoughts for a bit and continue to talk to Moana until the end of the class. She gives me her email so we send each other things for the project. Even though it's not her number, it's definitely a start. Better an email than nothing at all. When Moana says goodbye to me, Trevor shoots me a nasty death stare before coming over and shoving into me on the way out. I want nothing more than to open my mouth to call him out on how shitty he treats me, but I'm a coward. I simply hang my head and quietly make my way to my next class.
